Events
The Town of Davie Utilities Department participates in various events throughout the year, such as Broward County or Davie educational institution organized events.
An annually returning event is Water Matters Day. Water Matters Day, organized by Broward County, is an activity-filled event for the family. Its focus is teaching residents about the need to conserve water and to create awareness about the impact Broward residents have on our local water resources. Some highlights are: children’s activities, water conservation tips, interactive educational displays and food trucks. Each year the Town of Davie Utilities Department is present with a booth, providing giveaways and educational booklets on water conservation and on the importance of water in general.
The Utilities Department also provides tours to educational institutions at the water and wastewater reclamation facilities, such as high schools and universities.
Water Conservation
Water conservation benefits everybody: It saves the environment that you live in and saves the water customer money. A water conservation program is mandated as one of the limiting conditions of our Consumptive Use Permit.
Forty states, including Florida expect water shortages in some portion of their states in the next 10 years. Water is not an unlimited resource, and if you reduce your water footprint, you reduce your energy footprint too. To make water drinkable, it receives a high level of treatment. When water is wasted, instantly energy, money and time needed to treat that water, is wasted too.
For South Florida, with increasing demand for water due to a growing population and the manufacturing of products, our raw water supplies (aquifers) are stressed. This increases the risk for salt water intrusion in our surficial aquifer (Biscayne), meaning our Utility has to use the deep aquifer (Floridan), making the treatment process more costly, increasing the chance for higher water rates, and so forth. Although modern technology can ‘strip the water molecule’ from unwanted attachments and bring the water molecule back to its purest form, we must always consider conservation.
The Town of Davie’s water conservation program involves:
• Enforcing irrigation restrictions.
• Creating and providing reuse water for irrigation and industrial use.
• Outreach, such as educational events to the public (Water Matters day in March, Earth Day in April), collaboration with schools and providing tours at the water and reclamation plants.
• Water Saving retrofits such as low flow showerheads, bath and kitchen aerators and leak detection tablets for the toilet.
• Participation in NatureScape –a Broward County program that provides free advice on irrigation efficiency to large water users. If you are a business and a large water user and would like to learn more, call 954-327-3758 .
• Collaborating with Broward County on the Toilet Rebate program and other campaigns.
• Participation in the AWWA DropSavers Water Conservation Poster Contest.
Save more than 20,000 gallons of water a year with free water saving devices. The Town of Davie Customer Service Department can provide our water customers with a free water conservation kit (one kit per customer). A kit includes: a low flow showerhead, a kitchen aerator, a bath sink aerator and leak detection tablets for the toilet. Supplies are on a first come basis, while supplies last. For more information, please contact Utilities Customer Service at (954) 797-1065.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Training
The Davie Fire Rescue Department will be offering free training for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The class will meet at the Davie Fire Administration building located at 6901 Orange Drive beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 6 p.m.
Register
You must register before the class begins. Download the CERT Application (PDF). Please call the Davie Fire Rescue for more information at 954-797-1213 during normal working hours or send a question by email.
About the Program
The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training taught in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when public safety personnel are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to take a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. By getting trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and protect property.

Airport Noise Information
The Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) has begun a study to evaluate aircraft noise compatibility of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) with the local communities. This study is called a “Part 150 Study” because it will follow the process outlined in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 150 (Airport Noise Compatibility Planning). This includes creating Noise Exposure Maps (NEMs) and a Noise Compatibility Program (NCP). The NEMs show community exposure to certain levels of existing and future airport noise and identify uses that are noncompatible with those levels. The NCP recommends ways to address or reduce those noncompatible uses while preserving aviation safety and airport operational abilities.
Broward County Aviation Department Airport Noise Abatement Committee
BCAD established the Airport Noise Abatement Committee (ANAC) in 1992. This is an ongoing, cooperative public forum where the aviation community and public can meet to discuss aircraft noise impacts in neighborhoods around FLL, and monitor noise-related trends. ANAC also formulates recommendations for the BCAD Aviation Director resulting in increased effectiveness of FLL noise compatibility programs. All interested parties are encouraged to participate in these meetings.
Aircraft Noise and Operations Monitoring System (ANOMS)
FLL has a full-time Noise Officer on staff. This individual is responsible for:
- Operating and maintaining ANOMS.
- Assisting in the implementation of noise abatement measures.
- Talking with citizens who have questions or concerns regarding aircraft noise.
- Maintaining the latest information related to aircraft noise around FLL.
ANOMS consists of two basic elements: a radar system for the purpose of acquiring flight track information, and 11 permanent noise monitoring stations.
The ANOMS main server collects data from both the PASSUR (Passive Secondary Surveillance Radar) and the noise monitors. The integration of these two systems allows the Noise Officer to gather information on the flight of aircraft and the resultant noise levels in communities surrounding FLL.
We use the radar data acquired from the PASSUR to
- Communicate a property’s location relative to typical arrival and departure corridors
- Confirm that airplanes are adhering to our Noise Abatement Departure tracks
- Perform operational analyses. An operational analysis can provide information about the numbers, types, and altitudes of airplanes that fly over a specific property during a given time period.
Runway Use and Noise Abatement
Informal Runway Use Program
The Informal Runway Use Program is an approved runway use program which does not require a letter of understanding, and participation in the program is voluntary for aircraft operators/pilots. The program includes:
- Helicopter arrival and departure procedures
- Preferential runway use
- Operational safety criteria
Read the Informal Runway Use Program Opens in New Window (PDF).
Noise Abatement Procedures
The BCAD offers a voluntary program of operational noise abatement measures for all turbojet aircraft operators/pilots (regardless of weight).
