Madison and Michaela Cloonan Signs to NSU Women’s Basketball

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team continues to reload its roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of Kirtland, OH natives 5’10 forward Madison Cloonan and 5’10 guard Michaela Cloonan.

Madison Cloonan transfers to Nova Southeastern after four seasons at Ursuline College, where she started in 102 games and averaged 31.7 minutes per contest. During the 2023-24 season, Madison averaged 9.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, and shot 44% from the field. She also notched a triple double against Clarion on November 22nd, 2023 with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

During her time at Ursuline, she recorded 1,077 points and 900 rebounds, and was named to the All-GMAC defensive team at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.

Madison’s twin sister, Michaela Cloonan, will also transfer to Nova Southeastern after four seasons at Ursuline College, where she made 90 starts and averaged 31.2 minutes per contest. During the 2023-24 season, Michaela averaged 13.3 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game, and shot 42% from the field.

Michaela recorded 1,239 points in her time at Ursuline. For her overall production, she was named to the All-GMAC First Team this season.

“Madison and Michaela are both extremely hard workers, have great versatility, distribute the ball well, and love to be challenged. Due to their growth mindsets and strong desire to win, we expect them to excel in our system,” stated Coach Freeland-Curry.

The Cloonans graduated with business degrees from Ursuline with a 3.99 GPA and will be pursuing their M.B.A degrees at NSU.

Mercedes Simmons Signs to NSU Women’s Basketball

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team continues to reload its roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of 6’1 forward Mercedes Simmons. 
 
Simmons, a senior, transfers to Nova Southeastern after four seasons at Purdue University-Northwest, where she appeared in 100 games, making 56 starts and averaging 20.2 minutes per contest. Simmons ranked first on the team in rebounding at 8.3 rebounds and second in scoring with 16.1 points per game, she also added 2.4 blocks per contest while shooting an impressive 54% from the field during the 2023-24 season.  
 
“Mercedes is a force on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she is a true low block post player with a great drop step who runs the floor very well. Defensively, she understands help side, alters shots at the rim, and grabs rebounds aggressively. Mercedes’ scoring efficiency, toughness on the low block, growth mindset and strong desire to win make her a great fit for our program,” stated Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry. “Our coaching staff and players are excited to announce Mercedes Simmons is a Shark.” 
 
During the 2023-24 season, the Crystal Falls, MI native started all 29 games for the Pride and earned a selection to the All-GLIAC First Team and All-GLIAC Defensive Team. Not to mention she also ranked 10th in Division II in total blocks, 

Simmons will graduate from Purdue NW with a degree in Psychology with a 3.14 GPA. She will be pursuing her master’s degree in general psychology at NSU.

Dash Shaw Signs to NSU Women’s Basketball

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team continues to reload its roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of 5’6 guard Dash Shaw.

Shaw, a senior, transfers to Nova Southeastern after four seasons at Purdue University-Northwest, where she appeared in 102 games, making 67 starts and averaging 28.1 minutes per contest. Shaw ranked first on the team in scoring at 17.7 points and added 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while also shooting 47% from the field during the 2023-24 season.

“Dash is an explosive guard with good body control who has a knack for drawing fouls and finishing at the rim. In the past two seasons alone, she went to the free throw line 374 times. While at Purdue NW, Dash scored 1,494 points and shot 48% from the field for her career. Due to her high basketball IQ, skill set, and desire to win, she is a great fit for NSU Basketball,” stated Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry. “Our coaching staff and players are excited to announce Dash Shaw is a Shark.”

During the 2023-24 season, the Crown Point, IN native started all 29 games for the Pride and earned a selection to the All-GLIAC First Team, her second time earning that honor.

Dash will graduate from Purdue NW with a degree in Criminal Justice with a 3.8 GPA. She will be pursuing her master’s degree in criminal justice at NSU.

Corina Conley Signs to NSU Women’s Basketball

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team continues to reload its roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of 6’0 guard Corina Conley.

Conley, a senior, transfers to Nova Southeastern after four seasons at Kentucky Wesleyan College, where she appeared in 109 games, making 71 starts and averaging 22.2 minutes per contest. Conley ranked third on the team in scoring at 10.8 points and added 5.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game during the 2023-24 season. 

“Corina was a standout player at Kentucky Wesleyan leading them to 21 wins and their third straight NCAA tournament appearance this season. The consummate team player, Corina does anything the team needs to be successful. She is a highly efficient scorer, has a high motor, and can defend any position. Due to her infectious personality and positive mindset, she fits very well into our culture,” stated Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry. “Because Kentucky Wesleyan doesn’t offer any graduate programs, Corina hit the portal looking for a new opportunity. Our coaching staff and players are excited to announce Corina Conley is a Shark.”

During the 2023-24 season, the Englewood, OH native started all 28 games for the Panthers and earned a selection to the All-GMAC Second Team. 

Corina will graduate from Kentucky Wesleyan as a double major in Business Administration and Communication Arts with a 3.62 GPA and will be pursuing a Master’s in Leadership at NSU.

Payton Graber signs with NSU Women’s Basketball

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – After an appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen this past season, the Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team begins to reload their roster for the 2024-25 season, welcoming Payton Graber to the Sharks Women’s Basketball team, announces Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry

Graber, a sophomore, transfers to Nova Southeastern after one season at the College of Saint Rose, where she started 27 games. Graber was the leading scorer on the Golden Knights, averaging 12 points per game during the 2023-24 season. 

“Payton was a high-performing guard at the College of Saint Rose leading them to 21 wins and an NCAA tournament bid this season. Her determination helped their program finish third in the NE 10 after a pre-season ranking of 11. Payton has a very high basketball IQ, a strong skill set, and sees the floor well. Her grit and toughness enables her to be highly effective on both ends of the floor,” stated Freeland-Curry. “Due to the closure of the College of Saint Rose, Payton hit the portal looking for a new opportunity. Our coaching staff and players are excited to announce Payton Graber is a Shark.”

During the 2023-24 campaign, the Schenectady native scored a career high 23 points in a winning effort against D’Youville. Graber’s impressive performance throughout the season earned her a spot on the All NE-10 Second Team.
