#3 Sharks Conclude Season at NCAA National Championship

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team concluded their 2024 season at the NCAA National Championship tournament with an 11th place finish (+20/299/292/293) in the final round of stroke play on Thursday afternoon at the Panther Lake course at Orange County National. Ellen Andersson paced the Sharks throughout the tournament, finishing in a tie for 14th place (E/72/67/77).

How it Happened

  • Maia Samuelsson, opening the final round of stroke play for the Sharks, began the round with plenty of momentum. Samuelsson parred 5-of-6 holes to start the round, adding a birdie, but followed with back-to-back bogeys before closing the front-nine with her second birdie.
  • Samuelsson ended the tournament with another six pars on the back-nine and shot a 75, her best round of play. 
  • Haruka Muta also added her best round of play at the NCAA National Championship, recording a 71 on the afternoon. 
  • Muta tallied a pair of birdies on both the front and back-nines, while totaling 11 pars in the round. 
  • After starting the afternoon with a bogey, Ellen Ramstedt settled in nicely, recording seven consecutive pars on the front-nine. Following the turn, Ramstedt shot a bogey-free back-nine, adding a birdie on 14, closing the tournament with a 73, her best performance of the championship. 
  • Jimena Marques was steady throughout Thursday’s action, tallying six pars and a birdie across the front-nine. After the turn, Marques added another eight pars, finishing the round with a 74, her top performance of the tournament. 
  • Ellen Andersson placed inside the top-15 at the NCAA National Championship, recording an even-par across three rounds of action. Andersson closed out the tournament with an eagle, finishing the afternoon with a 77.

#3 Sharks in Hunt after two rounds at NCAA National Tournament

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Following two rounds of action at the NCAA National Championship tournament, the third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team is tied for ninth place (+15) and seven strokes out of position to advance to match play. Ellen Andersson (T3/-5/72/67) tied for the lowest round of the day and is one stroke off the lead for the individual title.

How it Happened

  • Ellen Andersson was spectacular throughout the morning and into the afternoon. After opening the round with a bogey, Andersson followed with a pair of birdies and an eagle, in addition to five pars, to close out the front-nine. Following the turn, Andersson tallied two more birdies, adding seven pars, to finish the afternoon with a bogey-free back-nine and shot a 67. 
  • Haruka Muta recorded seven pars across the front-nine, but also added a double bogey and a bogey, finishing the front-nine with a 39. Muta tallied six more pars, a birdie, and two bogeys on the back-nine, ending the afternoon with a 76.
  • Ellen Ramstedt cut two strokes off her score in her second round, recording three birdies and 10 pars, but tallied five bogeys. 
  • Jimena Marques began the round with four straight pars, and parred three-of-four holes to close the front-nine with a 36. On the back-nine, Marques opened with another four consecutive pars, followed by three bogeys, and ended the day with a 75. 
  • Maia Samuelsson started the second round with seven pars on the front-nine, book-ending the first half of the day with a bogey on one and a double bogey on nine. On the back-nine, Samuelsson parred seven-of-nine holes, adding a birdie and a double bogey. 

What's Next
The final round of stroke play of the NCAA National Championship tournament will be held on Thursday, May 23. The top six teams following the round will advance to match play to determine the NCAA National Champion beginning on Friday, May 24. #3 NSU Begins Play at NCAA National Tournament

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team begin play at the NCAA National Championship on Tuesday afternoon. Following the first round of action, NSU (+11) is tied for 12th place in the 18-team field. Ellen Andersson (E) finished the first round inside the top-20 of the standings.

  • Ellen Andersson began the NCAA National Championship tournament with seven consecutive pars, before adding a birdie on seven. Following a bogey on the eighth hole, Andersson tallied 10 straight pars, finishing the round at an even-par. 
  • Haruka Muta opened the tournament with a bogey and a double bogey, but responded with pars on four-of-six holes, while adding two birdies, to close the front-nine. Following the turn, Muta bogeyed back-to-back holes but closed the round strong with five straight pars and added a third birdie in the round. 
  • Ellen Ramstedt closed her front-nine with a birdie and used that momentum to close the round with eight pars on the back-nine. 
  • Jimena Marques and Maia Samuelsson combined for three birdies and 22 pars, as each student-athlete ended the round five-over.

#3 Sharks Claim Spot at NCAA National Championship

CLEVELAND, TN. – The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team has clinched a spot at the NCAA National Championship, placing fifth at the NCAA South Super Regional at the Cleveland Country Club on Wednesday afternoon. NSU (+28/297/297/298) will be joined at the NCAA National Championship by Anderson, Lynn, Flagler, and Lee.

How it Happened

  • Haruka Muta began her final round with a birdie, but followed with bogeys on six-of-seven holes, before closing the front-nine with a par. Muta settled in on the back-nine, recording pars on eight-of-nine holes, including closing the tournament with five consecutive to end the round with a 77. 
  • Maia Samuelsson had her best round of the NCAA South Regional on Wednesday, posting a 71 and jumping 10 spots up the final leader board. Samuelsson shot a bogey-free front-nine and following the turn, added three straight pars. After tallying a bogey on 13, Samuelsson responded with back-to-back birdies. Samuelsson shot a 71 in her final round, ending the tournament tied for 24th. 
  • Jimena Marques posted a 75 for the third consecutive round, ending the tournament with a total of 15 pars. 
  • Ellen Ramstedt provided a steady performance for the Sharks in the final round. Ramstedt had three bogeys across the front-nine, but closed the tournament with seven pars and a birdie across the final eight holes. 
  • Ellen Andersson was the final Sharks women’s golfer to tee off in the third round of the NCAA South Super Regional. Andersson posted a 79 in the final round, as the Sharks advanced to the NCAA National Championship.

#3 Sharks in Striking Distance after Second Round at NCAA Regionals

CLEVELAND, TN. – The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Golf team finished play at the second round at the NCAA South Super Regional on Tuesday afternoon. The Sharks (+18/297/297) currently sit tied for fifth place with Saint Leo in a battle for the final spot for qualification to the NCAA National Championship. Ellen Ramstedt (T1/+3/76/71) and Ellen Andersson (T13/+3/71/76) lead NSU after two rounds of action.

  • Ellen Ramstedt jumped 16 spots up the leader board in the second round. Ramstedt began her day with a pair of birdies and five pars. Following the turn, Ramstedt bogeyed two of the first three holes, but responded with three consecutive birdies and closed the round with a pair of pars. 
  • Ellen Andersson tallied six pars to begin the round and following the turn totaled another six pars, as well as a birdie. Andersson recorded five bogeys on the day, finishing the afternoon with a 76. 
  • Jimena Marques recorded one of her two birdies to begin the second round and ended the day with her second consecutive day shooting a 75. 
  • Maia Samuelsson added a pair of birdies on the day, ending the round with a 77. 
  • Haruka Muta added three birdies and 12 pars for the Sharks, moving four spots up the leader board with a 75 in the second round.

CLEVELAND, TN. – Following a four-and-a-half hour weather delay, the No. 3 Nova Southeastern Sharks began action with the first round at the NCAA South Super Regional on Monday afternoon at the Cleveland Country Club. The Sharks, currently in fifth place, ended Monday’s action at nine-over (297). Ellen Andersson (T4/-1/71) is pacing the Sharks and finished the first round inside the top-five.

  • Ellen Andersson began her round with three consecutive pars, before adding a bogey and a birdie, and finished the front-nine with another four straight pars. Following the turn, Andersson totaled six pars and a pair of birdies, closing the afternoon at one-under. 
  • Jimena Marques (T20/+3) and Maia Samuelsson (T20/+3) both finished the day inside the top-20 for NSU.   • Ellen Ramstedt (T29/+4) added 10 pars for NSU, as well as a pair of birdies. 
  • Haruka Muta (T42/+6) tallied a pair of birdies on the back-nine.

Three Sharks Named to All-SSC Teams

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the 2024 Women’s Golf All-Conference teams on Wednesday afternoon. The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks had three student-athletes recognized, as Ellen Andersson (First-Team), Maia Samuelsson (Second-Team) and Hannah Mitterberger (Third-Team) were all honored by the league.

Overall, 15 student-athletes were chosen for the All-Sunshine State Conference teams. Voting for the All-SSC Women’s Golf Teams was conducted among the league’s women’s golf coaches.

Andersson led the Sharks to a pair a victories to begin the 2023-24 season, opening the season with a victory at the South Region Preview at the Cleveland Country Club – the site of the NCAA South Region Tournament. Andersson finished the South Region Preview shooting 69/72/73 (-2) and followed with her second consecutive individual win at the Saint Leo Invitational, posting a 71/68/72 (-5) winning the tournament by five strokes. Andersson was named the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week on October 23rd. The first-team All-Sunshine State Conference honor marks the second time Andersson has been recognized by the league (2023 All-SSC Second-Team).

Samuelsson registered the third individual win for the Sharks during the 2023-24 campaign, starting the spring schedule with a win at the World Golf Invitational, shooting a 70/74/73 (+1). Samuelsson earned Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week on February 23rd. This is the first All-Sunshine State Conference honor of Samuelsson’s Shark career.

Mitterberger earned the first Sunshine State Conference of her career, being recognized to the third-team. Mitterberger placed fourth at the Lady Moc Classic (+3/70/72/77), sixth at the World Golf Invitational (+5/73/72/76) and was named the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week on October 30th.

#3 Sharks Selected to NCAA South Region Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The NCAA released the field of 48 teams and 24 student-athletes competing as individuals that have been selected to participate in regional competition of the 2024 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf championship.  

The third-ranked Nova Southeastern Women’s Golf team, under the direction of Head Coach Heather Wall, has been chosen as the second seed in the South Regional. NSU finished the 2023 season as NCAA national finalists. The Sharks have won four events during the 2023-24 season, with Ellen Andersson (South Region Preview, 9/19; Saint Leo Invitational, 10/17) and Maia Samuelsson (World Golf Invitational, 2/6) added individual wins for NSU. Nova Southeastern placed second at the Sunshine State Conference tournament earlier this month.  

The NCAA South Region tournament, which will take place at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, TN., features a field of ten nationally ranked programs, representing the Sunshine State Conference, Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference, Gulf South Conference and Conference Carolina. No. 3 Nova Southeastern will be competing against No. 2 Flagler, No. 6 Anderson, No. 8 Rollins, No. 10 Barry, No. 11 Lynn, No. 15 Saint Leo, No. 16 Lee, No. 19 Wingate, No. 20 Limestone, West Florida and North Greenville.  

The NCAA Division II women’s golf regional competition will be conducted from May 6 – 8. All participants will compete through 54 holes of competition with the top five teams from the south region advancing to the NCAA national championship tournament in Orlando, Fla., from May 21 – 25.
