Sharks earn fourth seed in NCAA Tournament

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 19th-ranked Nova Southeastern Softball team makes its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament after being selected in Monday morning’s NCAA selection show.

As the No. 4 seed, the Sharks will travel to Tampa, Fla., where they’ll open up play against the 5th-seeded and fellow SSC member the Barry Buccaneers this Thursday at 3 p.m. EST. 
  
In the South 1 Region bracket, NSU will also be grouped with the No. 1-seeded and host Tampa and the No. 8 seed Spring Hill.  

The South 2 Region bracket is comprised of the No. 2 seed and host Saint Leo, No. 7 seed Mississippi College, No. 3 seed Auburn Montgomery, and No. 6 seed West Florida. The winners of each double-elimination bracket will meet in a best-of-three Super Regional beginning Thursday, May 15.  
 
The Division II Softball Championship will be held at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, TN, from May 22-28.   

The Sharks enter the tournament clicking on all cylinders, ending the regular season on a seven-game winning streak en route to a 38-14 overall record. NSU also posted a 21-9 record in conference play, tabbing them third in the league.

NSU Softball honors senior class, completes series sweep over Lynn

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA —The Nova Southeastern Softball team closed out the regular season on a seven-game winning streak after completing a series sweep over the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Softball Stadium. 

Prior to today’s doubleheader NSU athletics honored seven seniors, Erin McGlothlin, Brenna Lokeinsky, Tori Copeland, Alisha Lanyon, Cassidy Duskin, Lauren Margolis, and Lydia Drake.

How it Happened

BOT 2nd – With the bases loaded, Brianna Matthews was walked, bringing home the game’s first run. Shortly after, a sacrifice fly by Cassidy Duskin extended NSU’s lead to 2-0. 

Stellar pitching by Duskin kept the Fighting Knights at bay as she completed the complete game shutout victory for NSU.

How it Happened

TOP 1st – The Fighting Knights got off to a hot start, taking an early 2-0 lead.

BOT 1st – RBIs by Brenna Lokeinsky, Tori Copeland, and Lauren Margolis pushed the Sharks ahead, giving them a 3-2 advantage.

TOP 2nd – Lokeinsky continued to impress as she batted in two runs, extending the Sharks’ lead to three runs.

BOT 3rd – Lynn answered with two runs, cutting their deficit to 5-4.

TOP 4th – Cassidy Patterson showcased her speed, stealing home and tacking the Sharks’ sixth run of the game on the board.

BOT 5th – A fielder’s choice allowed Margolis to score, bringing the score to 7-4.

BOT 6th – NSU wasn’t finished yet, scoring two more runs off an RBI single by Abbey Moore, ultimately securing the 9-4 win over the Lynn Fighting Knights.

TOP 4th – The Fighting Knights finally got on the board after an RBI single to second base, cutting their deficit to two runs.

#19 Sharks complete series sweep over Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The #19 ranked Nova Southeastern Softball team completed the SSC series sweep over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon at Simpson Field. Three RBIs by Brenna Lokeinsky led the way for the Sharks in game one before a 10-strikeout performance by Gracelyn Wallace helped lead NSU to the doubleheader sweep in game two.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The #19 ranked Nova Southeastern Softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday afternoon at the Space Coast Games. The Sharks opened up the day with a 6-2 loss against Franklin Pierce before bouncing back with a dominant 10-0 victory over Molly in run-rule fashion.

TOP 4th – An error by the Lions allowed the fifth Shark run to score. 

TOP 5th – NSU’s run barrage continued as Abbey Moore batted in two runs to extend their lead to 7-0. Shortly after, Moore was able to score off an error by Molloy. Maliyah Lawson would then close out the scoring with a sacrifice fly, sealing the 10-0 win for the Sharks in run-rule fashion.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The #19 ranked NSU Softball team finished competing at the USSSA Space Coast Games Sunday afternoon. The Sharks won four of their five games, finishing off the tournament with victories against Molloy University and Illinois-Springfield.

BOT 3rd – NSU’s run barrage continued as Hutzler batted in Fine for the Shark’s fifth run of the game.
TOP 7th – Molloy put two runs on the board but it wasn’t enough to overcome their deficit as NSU secured the 4-2 victory.
