#2 Sharks Handle Walsh in Home Opener

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In front of a record-setting crowd of 2,309 Shark fans, the second-ranked Nova Southeastern Men’s Basketball team defeated the Walsh Cavaliers 101-57 on Friday evening at the Rick Case Arena. MJ Iraldi once again led the NSU offense, scoring 28 points, including a perfect 100% from beyond the arc and free throw line, while grabbing six rebounds, tallying four assists and adding five steals. Nova Southeastern continued to protect home court, winning the team’s 65th consecutive game at the Rick Case Arena.

How it Happened
First Half – MJ Iraldi came out firing on all cylinders, scoring each of the first seven points for the Sharks as NSU took a 7-5 lead over the Cavaliers. After Tyler Eberhart and Ryan Davis added points, Iraldi recorded a steal and went coast-to-coast for a fast-break layup and extended the NSU lead to 15-10. Midway through the first half, the Sharks led 26-18. Eli Allen knocked down a three, following a steal from Dallas Graziani, putting Nova Southeastern ahead 29-18. Ryker Cisarik got the crowd fired up with four consecutive points, including an emphatic dunk, extending the lead to 35-20. Iraldi continued adding to his ledger, hitting a pair of threes in the final minute, sending the Sharks into the halftime break leading 45-31.

Second Half – The Sharks quickly opened up a 20 points lead in the second half, as Eberhart and Graziani hit a pair of layups, giving NSU a 53-33 lead. Ross Reeves tallied six straight points for the Sharks, making a layup and converting a four-point play following a three-point bucket and a foul, as the Sharks led 64-44. Eberhart converted two straight attempts, extending the Nova Southeastern – including an and-one – pushing the lead to 74-46. Alex Sessoms led an 8-0 run for the Sharks, hitting a pair of three points and extended the lead to 82-49 over the Cavs. Jamie Qualley knocked down a pair of technical free throws, putting the Sharks ahead 95-54. The Sharks closed out the 101-57 victory, extending the home winning streak to 65 consecutive games.

#2 Sharks Roll Montevallo at SSC/GSC Crossover

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the third consecutive game, all five starters for the second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Basketball scored in double-digits, led by 29 points from MJ Iraldi, as well as double-doubles from Dallas Graziani (10 points, 11 assists) and Ryker Cisarik (19 points, 10 rebounds), as NSU defeated Montevallo 104-87 in the second game of the SSC/GSC Crossover on Saturday night.

How it Happened
First Half – The Sharks started out the game with a flurry of three-pointers from Ross Reeves, Ryker Cisarik and Eli Allen as NSU led 12-5 early in the contest. Tyler Eberhart added a second-chance bucket, giving the Sharks’ a double-digit advantage (22-12) within nine minutes of action. The Falcons cut the NSU lead to 25-21 by hitting three straight three pointers. MJ Iraldi scored six consecutive points for NSU, starting a 20-0 run, which spanned nearly seven minutes of game time, as the Sharks went into the break leading 50-30.

Second Half – Early in the second period, Montevallo was able to cut the deficit in half, but back-to-back three pointers from Cisarik pushed the Sharks lead to 70-54. Midway through the second half, Eberhart added a three-pointer to his ledger, as NSU led 77-61 over the Falcons. Dallas Graziani forced a steal on former Shark, Cam Andrews, and went coast-to-coast, finishing off a fast-break lay-up and putting NSU in front 88-66. Nova Southeastern surpassed the 100-point threshold following a second chance bucket from Alex Sessoms, giving the Sharks a 100-79 lead with less than two minutes remaining. NSU sealed its fourth consecutive win, closing out Montevallo 104-87.

The Sharks outscored Montevallo 25-16 off of turnovers and 62-34 with points in the paint.

#2 Sharks hold off Chargers in OT at SSC/GSC Crossover

MONTEVALLO, AL. – The No. 2 Nova Southeastern Men’s Basketball team were nearly pushed to their limit, in a game that featured 15 ties and 19 lead changes, but a late 7-2 run, which featured five of Ryker Cisarik’s 32 points, was enough for the Sharks to pull through with a 105-104 overtime victory over the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in the first game of the SSC/GSC Crossover at the Central State Bank Arena. All five starters for the Sharks scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, as MJ Iraldi (20), Tyler Eberhard (18), Ross Reeves (16) and Dallas Graziani (15) joined Cisarik’s efforts.

How it Happened

First Half – The game opened up with both teams trading buckets back-and-forth, UAH started the scoring with a three-pointer which was answered by a three-point bucket by Ryker Cisarik. Dallas Graziani and and Eli Allen got involved on the scoreboard, putting NSU ahead 9-8 at the first media timeout. Cisarik and MJ Iraldi combined to score eight straight points for NSU, giving Nova Southeastern a 17-16 lead with under 12 minutes to go in the first half. Tyler Eberhart and Graziani added the next 12 points for NSU, pushing the Sharks’ advantage to 29-21 over the Chargers. Alabama-Huntsville went on a 13-5 run, tying the game at 34-34 before a fast-break bucket from Eberhart and a dunk from Cisarik, extended NSU’s lead to 38-34. The Sharks went into the halftime break leading 44-37 over the Chargers. 

Second Half – The Chargers made adjustments during the break and used an 11-3 run to take the lead at 48-47 over NSU within three minutes of the second half. Ross Reeves knocked down a three-pointer, briefly halting the UAH momentum, before Iraldi added back-to-back buckets and reclaimed the lead for Nova Southeastern at 54-53. NSU and UAH continued to trade baskets, as midway through the half the score was tied at 69-69. Cisarik and Reeves hit two consecutive three-point attempts for the Sharks, pushing the lead to 79-75 with six minutes remaining. UAH continued to battle, taking the lead at 81-79 just twi minutes later. Down the final stretch of regulation, neither team held a lead greater than two points, as the Chargers took a 91-89 advantage with just 20 seconds remaining, but a pair of clutch free throws from Iraldi sent the game into overtime with the score deadlocked at 91-91. 

Overtime – After a scoreless first minute, neither the Sharks or Chargers missed a shot over a span of two minutes, as Cisarik and Eberhart combined for ten points, but NSU trailed 102-101 after UAH hit three consecutive three-pointers. In the final minute, the Chargers took a 104-101 lead, but a clutch lay-up from Iraldi brought the Sharks back within one. After a missed three-pointer, Cisarik’s efforts led to a foul by the Chargers, sending him to the free throw line. Cisarik knocked down both free throws and UAH missed their attempt at a game-winner, as the Sharks escaped with a 105-104 victory. 

For the game, NSU outscored UAH 15-8 off turnovers, 46-28 in the paint, and 23-7 in transition.

#2 Sharks Three-peat as SSC Regular Season Champions

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the third consecutive season, the second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Basketball team has won the Sunshine State Conference regular season title. The Sharks defeated Florida Southern 93-63 on Saturday afternoon from the Rick Case Arena. Shane Hunter (19 points/8 rebounds) and MJ Iraldi (17 points/9 rebounds) led NSU in the effort, as Nova Southeastern won its tenth consecutive game. 

NSU has now won 57 consecutive games at the Rick Case Arena, dating back to February 2020.

How it Happened
First Half – Alex Mangold gave the Sharks an early 7-2 lead over Florida Southern after knocking down a three-pointer off an assist from Mike Moore. NSU opened up a 11-point advantage before the midway point of the first half, as the Sharks led 18-7 after a pair of free throws by Trey Doomes. Later in the half, Ryker Cisarik recorded a three-point bucket of his own, extending the Nova Southeastern lead to 31-13 with just over five minutes remaining in the half. A 6-0 run by the Sharks, led by four points from Shane Hunter, put NSU in front 37-15 over Florida Southern. Hunter closed out the half by putting back a second chance opportunity, narrowly beating the buzzer, and sent NSU into halftime with a 43-22 lead. 

Second Half – Nova Southeastern maintained its 20-point lead over Florida Southern throughout the opening minutes of the second half, as the Sharks defense continued to limit the Mocs offense. Midway through the second half, NSU led 73-45 over FSC. A few moments later, MJ Iraldi put the Sharks in front 78-48 after he finished off an and-one opportunity. GianFranco Grafals made a pair of free throws and gave the Sharks their largest advantage of the game, putting the score at 87-50. Nova Southeastern clinched the program’s third consecutive regular season Sunshine State Conference title, fourth since the 2018-19 season, defeating Florida Southern 93-63.

Hunter Leads #2 Sharks Past Barry

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Led by a double-double (26 points/14 rebounds) from Shane Hunter, the second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Basketball team emerged victorious with an 88-80 Sunshine State Conference victory, over the Barry Buccaneers, on Wednesday evening at the Rick Case Arena. The victory marks the Sharks 56th consecutive home win, dating back to February 2020. 

No. 2 Nova Southeastern has won 13 straight games against the Buccaneers, dating back to November 2018.

How it Happened
First Half – Shane Hunter started and capped off an 8-2 run for the Sharks to open up the contest, however, the Buccaneers followed with a 7-2 run of their own to put the score at 10-9. Nova Southeastern responded with six unanswered points from Mike Moore, Alex Mangold, and Trey Doomes. A few moments later, Eli Allen knocked down a three-pointer, putting NSU in front 21-11. Midway through the first half, following buckets from Doomes and Hunter, the Sharks opened up a 31-18 lead over the Buccaneers. The Sunshine State Conference foes traded baskets back-and-forth, as Barry was able to cut the NSU advantage to 38-36 with two minutes remaining in the opening half. The Sharks closed the half up 42-36. 

Second Half – NSU quickly reclaimed a double digit lead in the opening minutes of the second half with a 46-36 lead. The Sharks were able to extend the advantage, putting the score at 70-51 at the midway point. The Buccaneers trimmed away at the NSU advantage, going on a 24-8 run, over a five minute stretch, putting the score at 78-75 with just under five minutes remaining. Hunter closed out the contest, scoring the final 12 points of the game for the Sharks, as Nova Southeastern pulled out the 88-80 victory over Barry.
