NCBWA Picks Pastore, Labosky as Preseason All-Region, Sharks Tied for Third in South

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Staring down the opening week of the season, the Nova Southeastern baseball program received additional recognition this week in the form of preseason player accolades and a firm standing in the preseason South Region polls. Officials from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) listed the Sharks in a tie with West Florida for third in the South Region, while also tabbing Duncan Pastore and Andrew Labosky for preseason All-Region honors.

Reigning National Champion Tampa sits atop the preseason South Region poll with every first-place vote, while Delta State ranks second out of the Gulf South Conference. Florida Southern follows in fifth, ahead of Mississippi College, Valdosta State, Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech and Barry.

Hailing from Tampa, Fla., Pastore receives first-team preseason All-Region honors as a utility player heading into his sophomore campaign. The freshman phenom of 2019, Pastore was dubbed the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, also adding D2CCA All-Region first team and All-SSC second team laurels. Playing anywhere the Sharks had an opportunity, but mostly third base and right field, Pastore batted .344 in his debut season, racking up 26 runs and 13 RBI in only 33 games, while also putting six doubles in play. Featuring the team’s third-best on-base percentage (.420), Pastore walked 14 times to go with his 43 hits – going on to rack up 12-of-16 stolen bases to rank third for the Sharks. On top of all that, Pastore made 13 pitching appearances with eight starts, collecting a 4-0 record with a starters-best 2.51 ERA, striking out 33 with just 12 walks in 43 innings pitched – allowing opponents only a .211 average against.

Heading into his fourth season at NSU out of Coral Springs, Fla., Labosky was named a designated hitter on the preseason All-Region second team. Labosky led NSU at the plate with a .360 average and listed at ninth in the SSC last year, collecting 36 runs and 25 RBI, aided by 12 doubles and three home runs, second on the team with 24 walks to boost his team-leading .474 on-base percentage. Once on the basepath, Labosky collected seven steals in nine attempts.

The 16th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks open their 2020 season on Friday, January 31 at home against No. 7 North Greenville at the NSU Baseball Complex. Saturday, February 1, the Sharks will follow up against Tusculum and close out the weekend with a local matchup against St. Thomas on Sunday, February 2.

Hydrant Flushing

The goal of hydrant flushing is to flush out sediments that have settled in the distribution pipes. Periodic flushing assists in maintaining the water quality. Typically, hydrant flushing is performed during the “Free Chlorination” time, but can also take place periodically throughout the year, if the department determines that there is a need.
Customers will be notified prior to Free Chlorination via notices on the utilities bills and the website. Additional information about Free Chlorination can be found in the fact sheet below.

Backflow & Cross-Connection Control

Backflow prevention is designed to protect the public water supply from contamination from customer’s plumbing systems. Per the Florida Administrative Code (FAC) –Chapter 62-555.360 and Town ordinances, Chapter 25 Article V and Article VIIA, an approved backflow device is required on all commercial, institutional and industrial businesses, multifamily residences, dedicated irrigation lines, and fire suppression lines. In addition, all single family residences with irrigation systems must have an approved testable backflow prevention device installed.
Per Town ordinances, failure to install an appropriate backflow constitutes grounds for discontinuing water service, in order to protect the public water system.

The Town of Davie has contracted with Backflow Solutions Inc. (BSI) to manage the backflow certification program. Every backflow service must be inspected annually by a certified backflow tester that is registered with BSI. Customers with known devices receive a reminder from BSI that testing is due.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact the Utilities Department at 954-327-3741 or BSI (for your existing backflow) at 1-800-414-4990 or visit the website at http://bsiprograms.com/contact-us/.
