#15 Sharks’ Battle with Tritons ends in Draw

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The #15 NSU Sharks returned home and battled Eckerd College to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening, their second tie of the season. The Sharks fell behind early but were aggressive late and continued generating chances out in front, and got a clutch goal from sophomore Genesis Hernandez. Hernandez recorded eight total shots, which was more than a third of the team’s 22 total shots, and the Tritons recorded nine total shots.

How it Happened

  • Early in the first half, Eckerd’s Nadia Buist got past the Shark defense for the first goal of the game at the 14:44 mark. Neither team was able to strike again before the halftime, and the Tritons held on to a 1-0 lead.
  • With the clock ticking down and after having generated multiple chances, Hernandez finally broke through, tying the game 1-1 on an assist from Sofia Suarez at the 88:06 mark. Hernandez’ goal was her fifth of the season, and the last of the game for either team.

What's Next
With the win, the Sharks move to 5-0-2, with a 1-0-2 mark in conference play. NSU will take the field again on Wednesday, October 1st at 7pm when they host Edward Waters University for Senior Night.

#15 Sharks Earn Road win Against Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. — A day after being ranked #15 in the USCA Top 25 poll, the NSU Sharks earned a 2-0 road win against Lynn University on Wednesday night. The Sharks got two second half goals in quick succession– the first from senior Sofia Suarez and the second from sophomore Genesis Hernandez— to break the stalemate and improve to 5-0-1 on the year. The Sharks were aggressive from the outset, outshooting the Fighting Knights 18 to 3, with nine of those shots being on goal. They also had 10 corner kicks to Lynn’s zero.

How it Happened

  • Neither team was able to strike paydirt in the first half, and they went into the locker room with the score knotted 0-0.
  • Suarez found the back of the net at the 53:37 mark of the second half, breaking the stalemate and giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The goal was her third of the season.
  • Hernandez got in on the action less than five minutes later, scoring at the 58:12 mark on an assist from Haley Mettrick, pushing the Sharks’ advantage to 2-0. Hernandez’ goal was her fourth of the season and was the final sore of the game.

What's Next
With the win, the Sharks’ improve to 5-0-1, and 1-0-1 in conference. They’ll turn their attention to Saturday’s game, a home match versus Eckerd College at 7pm.
