Sharks honor senior class, take down Tars

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A late second-half push led the  Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball team past the Rollins Tars in Saturday’s regular-season finale, clinching the third seed in the SSC Tournament. Prior to the game, NSU Athletics honored Corina Conley, Madison Cloonan, Zeyno SerenMichaela Cloonan, Alana Ellis, Suzan Kinran, Dash Shaw, Aubrey Stupp, and Mercedes Simmons.

How it Happened

First Half – The Tars jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but a 6-0 run featuring baskets from Corina Conley (2) and Aubrey Stupp (4) cut the Sharks deficit to two points. A last-second layup by the Tars put them ahead 20-16 going into the second quarter. Dash Shaw kicked off the scoring for the Sharks with back-to-back buckets to bring NSU within two points. Rollins wouldn’t back down, knocking down a timely shot to hold a 35-31 lead heading into the halftime break.

Second Half – After going down 37-31, the Cloonan twins went on their own 6-0 run to tie the game at 37 a piece. The Tars closed out the quarter, outscoring the Sharks 8-5 to take a 45-42 lead going into the final frame. Thanks to their tenacious defense, Nova Southeastern outscored Rollins 27-15 in the fourth quarter. NSU would secure the 69-60 comeback victory after their impressive effort on the defensive end.

The Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Basketball team will host the quarterfinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament against Palm Beach Atlantic beginning on Tuesday, March 4th, at the Rick Case Arena.
