HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • An opening round of (+2) 290 positioned the Sharks in fourth early on Monday. Their second-round score of (+10) 298 dipped them into sixth, yet NSU remains just six back of creeping into the Top-5 on the leaderboard.
  • Currently the only two teams in red numbers, Middle Tennessee State’s four-under par start leads  Virginia Commonwealth by a mere stroke atop the standings.
  • Old Dominion (+1), Mercer (+1) and Campbell (+6) round out the Top-5.
  • Cracking the lineup this week, Olofsson has made the most of his opportunity to this point. In round one, the Swede shook off an early bogey by shooting two-under par over the final 16 holes en route to a (-1) 71. Olofsson once again had red numbers in his sights in round two until a pair of bogeys down the stretch sent him in the clubhouse with a second-round 73. At even-par for the tournament, he sits four back of co-leaders Peter Gasperini of VCU and Jakob Henriksson of Old Dominion.
  • Four pars and a birdie over the final five holes allowed Mike Hay to post an opening-round of (-1) 71. Adding a (+4) 76 to his total in the afternoon, the sophomore currently stands tied for 24th.
  • An up-and-down round that featured a team-high five birdies gave Tomas Millet a round of (+1) 73 to start the tourney. With a second round score of (+3) 75, the Spaniard owns a share of 27th at four-over par.
  • Following a third-place finish a week ago in his collegiate debut, Javier Calles cooled off a bit through the opening two rounds on Monday, carding rounds of 74 and 75 to grab a share of 34th.
  • At 14-over par, Joseba Torres finds himself tied for 59th with 18 holes to play.
  • Victor Jimenez is making his case to be among next week’s starting lineup. Competing as an individual for the Southern Invitational, Jimenez fired the low round of any NSU player on Monday, posting a (-2) 70 to go along with a (+2) 74. His efforts have him in a seven-way tie for 11th.

STATS OF THE DAY:

  • Millet’s Par-5 scoring average of 4.50 ranks tied for fourth among the field.
  • Jimenez shot two-under par on the Par-3’s Monday, tied for third-best through the first two rounds.
  • The second round (75.26) played over a half shot tougher than the opening round (74.72).
