MIRAMAR, Fla. – Back on familiar turf at the Ansin Sports Complex, but this time as vistors, the Nova Southeastern track and field teams won the women’s title and finished third on the men’s side of the Bobcat-Shark Relays on Tuesday. Going against 10 collegiate teams, including a pair of Division I schools, the women scored 122 points in the win and the men logged 105 to finish just eight points out of first.
RELAY EVENTS
With the name of the game right there in the event’s title, the Shark produced a stout set of performances in the relays, bolstering scores for the top-tier team finishes. The Sharks swept golds on the opening relay event, the 4x800m – the men’s team of Quynlan Duffy, Joel Lacy, Jack Hayes, and Cote Strike ran an 8:26.55, while the women’s squad of Christina Adams, Megan Fleming, Sophia Leto and Aliza Richard came in at 10:11.74 in the first 3200m relay since 2011 (topping that group by two seconds).
Next up, the 4x100m relay group of Destinee Fisher, Lena Spindler, Nastassia Tyler, and Michelle Greenstein finished second in 48.63 with the best NSU time since 2017.
With a team of Spindler, Greenstein, Michelle Bigby and Jasmine Charles, the Sharks women earned second in the 4×200 at 1:44.13 in the first fielding of the event since 2015. The men’s unit of Justin Jackson, Ritchy Laguerre, Zaheem Anderson and Jared Robinson crossed the line in 1:31.27 for third place on the first 800m relay since 2016.
Rounding out the four relay events and closing out the meet, the women’s 4x400m relay of Bigby, Fleming, Leto and Richard came in at 4:26.65 for second place. The men’s squad was third with Q. Duffy, Daniel Duffy, Aaron Weimar and Trey May combining for a 3:37.49.
FIELD EVENTS
The Sharks earned maximum points in both pole vault events, with Shannon Towne winning the women’s at 3.05m (10-0 ft.), while Q. Duffy topped the men’s at 3.80m (12-5.5 ft.), ahead of Nadiv Galindo in second at 3.35m (10-11.75 ft.).
Eileen Platten earned second in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 9.91m (32-6.25 ft.). In the long jump, Abderazek Azlag was second at 6.50m (21-4 ft.) on the men’s side, while Kiara Rand and Platten both reached 4.77m (15-7.75 ft.), going third and fourth, respectively.
In the lone throwing score for the Sharks, Galindo earned third in the men’s javelin with a mark of 38.55m (126-5 ft.) on his third toss.
RUNNING EVENTS
Now matching her third personal best in as many tries, Spindler won the 100m with a 12.58 for the top NSU time since 2018.
In the men’s 400m hurdles, the Sharks went 1-2-3, led by Ian Nieves at a season-low 55.68, ahead of D. Duffy at 59.28 and James Gamble at 60.35. Nieves also scored high in the 110m hurdles, finishing second in a season-best 14.62 seconds, while Damilola Jolaogun was third in 16.16.
In the women’s 400m dash, Bigby added another Sharks silver at 1:02.46.
