Mike Hay wins SSC Championship

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Mike Hay (-11/66/67/72) becomes the sixth Nova Southeastern Sharks Men’s Golfer to win the individual title at the Sunshine State Conference Individual championship. The eighth-ranked Sharks (2nd/-16/283/279/286) finished the tournament in second place, just two strokes behind the SSC Champions, Barry.

How it Happened

Mike Hay tallied three birdies on the front-nine, before closing out his conference championship victory with six pars and sealed the title with a birdie on the final hole. 

Will McGhie (T9/-5/70/68/73) began his final round with three consecutive pars, but followed with a pair of bogeys, before closing the front-nine with four more pars. On the back-nine, McGhie recorded six pars and a birdie, finishing his first SSC championship inside the top-10. 

Joseba Torres (T11/-4/72/71/69) closed the tournament with his best round, shooting a bogey-free front-nine. Torres ended the day with three birdies and five pars across the final nine holes, finishing tied for 11th. 

Jorge Berea (T37/+6/75/75/72) put together a solid performance in his final round, recording four birdies. The freshman birdied three of his final four holes to bring NSU within two strokes of the team title. 

Ivan Ponsdomench shot a 76 in the final day of the tournament, ending the Sunshine State Conference Championship in a tie for 41st.

#8 Sharks Tied for Lead after Second Round at SSC Championships

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Nova Southeastern Men’s Golf team, after shooting nine-under as a team, finished the second round of the Sunshine State Conference Championship tournament tied for the lead with Saint Leo and Lynn on Tuesday afternoon at the Osprey Point Golf Club. Mike Hay (1st/-11/66/67) had another excellent day on the course, finishing the second round with six birdies and closed his day out with an eagle on the 18th hole. Hay holds a two-stroke lead over the field heading into the final round.

How it Happened
Hay began the second round with a birdie and added three more on the front-nine before the turn. On the back-nine, Hay tallied another pair of birdies and closed the round out with an eagle on 18, finishing out the day with a 67 and five-under. 
Will McGhie, after bogeying his second hole, was solid the rest of the day. McGhie (T5/-6/70/68) shot a bogey-free back-nine, adding three more birdies, and finished with four consecutive pars. 
Joseba Torres recorded five birdies in the second round, including posting a bogey-free back-nine, where he added three birdies. Torres is currently tied for 19th and is one-under after two rounds of action. 
Ivan Ponsdomenech (T38th) added three birdies for Nova Southeastern in the second round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament. 
Jorge Berea (T41st) recorded five birdies for the Sharks, but shot a 75 in his second round.

Mike Hay (3rd/-6) totaled eight birdies in the opening round of the SSC Tournament, including closing out the afternoon with back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. 

Will McGhie added six birdies for NSU in the first round, finishing the day tied for 12th and two-under par. 

Joseba Torres (27th/E/72) totaled four birdies in the first round of the SSC championship and sits in 27th place.
