Sharks Take Down Panthers, Win 5th Straight Match

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team defeated Florida Tech on Saturday, winning its 5th consecutive match. The Sharks lost the first set before gaining momentum, winning the next three, and defeating the Panthers in four sets (29-31, 25-16. 25-23, 25-19).

HOW IT HAPPENED

· Nova Southeastern got off to a slow start in the first set, finding themselves down 10-15 before a kill by Cambry Pope lowered the Sharks’ deficit to 15-17.

· NSU rattled off six straight points with kills from Taylor Stockman and Jordan Chessar to give the Sharks a 22-20 lead.

· The rally would fall short, as NSU dropped the first set 29-31.

· The Sharks got out to a 7-4 lead in the second set with two consecutive kills from Madison Cook and Stockman.

· Kills by Kate Mihacevich and Chessar lengthened the Sharks lead to 23-14.

· A final kill from Mihacevich, assisted by Cook, ended the second set and gave the Sharks a 25-16 win.

· The Sharks and Panthers fought back and forth throughout the third set, but NSU rallied three straight points on kills from Mihacevich to put the Sharks up 23-22.

· NSU continued its hot streak, taking the third set 25-23 on an attack error by the Panthers.

· Mihacevich had three consecutive service aces as a part of six straight points by the Sharks, putting NSU in good position to end the match with a 19-10 lead.

· Despite a strong comeback effort by the Panthers, a Chessar kill won the Sharks the set, and the match, 25-19.

Sharks Take Down The Lions in Four Sets

SAINT LEO, FLA. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks took care of business in Saint Leo on Friday night. The Sharks took the SSC victory over the Lions 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 24-26, 25-11).

HOW IT HAPPENED

· After starting the first set down 3-10, the Sharks went on a four-point run to get them back within three. The run featured kills from Cambry Pope, Olivia Aniol, and Taylor Stockman.

· NSU later forced the Lions to take a timeout after going on a big six-point run to give the Sharks a 14-12 lead. The run saw blocks from Olivia Aniol and Nyah Pacely, as well as a kill from Kate Mihacevich.

· The Sharks took a commanding 24-21 lead after a five-point run, which came from kills by Taylor Stockman and Cambry Pope, as well as a service ace from Aleyna Kennel.

· NSU claimed a 25-23 set one victory after a kill from Cambry Pope.

· The Sharks started the second set with the same energy they finished the first set with by going on an eight-point run to take an early 12-5 lead. The run saw two kills from Cambry Pope, two service aces from Aleyna Kennel, and blocks by Cambry Pope and Olivia Aniol.

· Kills from Taylor Stockman and Cambry Pope, blocks from Cambry Pope and Olivia Aniol, and a service ace from Jordan Chessar gave the Sharks a 23-16.

· After an attack error by the Lions, the Sharks were able to secure the set two victory, 25-19.

· Double trouble from Nyah Pacely and Cambry Pope as they both recorded back-to-back kills followed by a combo block to bring the Sharks within one in set three.

· Kills from Cambry Pope, Olivia Aniol, and Kate Mihacevich, and a service ace from Aleyna Kennel brought the Sharks back into set three, tying it at 24-24. Unfortunately, the Lions ultimately ended up winning the set 26-24.

· After an eight-point run late in set four, the Sharks were in great position to secure the set and match victory. The run featured kills from Taylor Stockman and Cambry Pope, blocks from Taylor Stockman, Olivia Aniol, and Cambry Pope, and a service ace from Jordan Chessar.

· After a solo block from Olivia Aniol, NSU was able to secure the 25-11 set four victory, and the match victory.

STATS OF THE MATCH

· Cambry Pope (14 kills) and Kate Mihacevich (13) led the team in kills.

· Nyah Pacely recorded 36 assists in the match.

· Olivia Aniol (7 blocks) and Cambry Pop (5) led the team in blocks.

Sharks Earn Third Consecutive SSC Victory

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks earned their third consecutive victory in Sunshine State Conference action, defeating Florida Tech in a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-13, 25-18) on Tuesday evening from the Rick Case Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Despite the first set opening as a back-and-forth affair for the first few points, the Sharks – led by three kills from Kate Mihacevich – rallied to score six consecutive points and led 14-10.  

  • Florida Tech responded, tying the set at 20-20, but Mihacevich and Taylor Stockman sealed the first set win for NSU at 25-20.  

  • Nova Southeastern began the second set on a 4-0 run, with Stockman, Mihacevich and Cambry Pope all recording points for the Sharks. 

  • Pope and Olivia Aniol each added points, extending the Sharks advantage to 8-5.  

  • Service aces from Grace Green and Preslee Brooksbank, in addition to three more kills from Mihacevich, pushed the Sharks advantage to 14-7 midway through the second set.  

  • NSU clinched a 2-0 match lead by scoring the final five points in the second set.  

  • The Panthers began the third set – how the Sharks began the second – by scoring four consecutive points, but the Sharks responded by quickly tying the set at 4-4.  

  • NSU added another 5-0 run, getting boosts from Stockman, Aleyna Kennel, Madison Cook and Pope, pushing their lead to 11-7.  

  • Nova Southeastern extended their advantage to 17-11, after Mihacevich and Stockman added points around a Cook service ace.  

  • Mihacevich clinched the Sweep for the Sharks, as NSU took the third set 25-18.

Sharks Honor Seniors, Beat Florida Southern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks celebrated Senior Night on Saturday afternoon with a victory over Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern. In game two of a three-game home stand, the Sharks dominated and took down the Mocs in four sets (25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 26-24).Prior to the match, Nova Southeastern Athletics honored seven senior, Aleyna Kennel, Brittany Landrum, Madison Cook, Amanda Hall, Evelyn Kinsch, Bruna Avila and Grace Green.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NSU started the first set trailing, but a kill from Madison Cook tied the score at 10-10.
  • The Sharks gained momentum as kills by Cook and Cambry Pope gave the team a 14-10 lead.
  • Following that stretch, a strong run capped by kills from Kate Mihacevich and Jordan Chessar gave the Sharks a 21-12 advantage.
  • An ace from Chessar secured a 25-17 win for the Sharks in the first set.
  • Back-to-back kills by Olovia Aniol put Nova Southeastern ahead in the second set, 9-8.
  • The set continued to go back-and-forth until an ace from Mihacevich gave NSU a 14-13 lead.
  • A late rally by the Mocs secured the Sharks’ fate, losing the second set 25-17.
  • Much like the first two sets, the third set was tied until a Taylor Stockman kill gave the Sharks a 7-6 lead.
  • Four straight points from Mihacevich, a service error and a service ace put NSU in great position with a 22-17 advantage.

Madison Cook recorded 49 assists in the four-set match and totaled her 2,000th career assist as a Nova Southeastern Shark with her 36th of the match.

Sharks Beat Sailfish In SSC Showdown

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After dropping the first set, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team got back in the win column on Tuesday evening, defeating the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic in four-sets (22-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17). Taylor Stockman (17 kills) and Kate Mihacevich (15) led the Sharks offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Sharks trailed 12-6 early in the opening set, but a Kate Mihacevich kill sparked a 4-1 run for NSU, putting the score at 13-10.  

  • Nova Southeastern was able to cut the deficit to one (22-21), following another Mihacevich kill and an additional point from Cook, but the Sharks dropped the first set 25-23.  

  • Mihacevich began the second set with back-to-back kills, leading a 5-1 run by the Sharks.  

  • NSU extended its lead to 10-3 in the second set, following a kill from Taylor Stockman and Mihacevich service ace. 

  • NSU sealed the second set win 25-15, closing out the period following a PBA error.  

  • The Sharks continued their early rallies in the third set, scoring six consecutive points, taking advantage of four Sailfish errors.  

  • PBA rallied to take a 15-12 lead over NSU, but Nova Southeastern continued to battle, as Cambry Pope recorded back-to-back kills to tie the set at 17-17.  

  • Trailing 23-21, the Sharks rallied for four straight points, closing out the set 25-21. The run featured points from Jordan Chessar, Mihacevich, and Stockman. 

  • The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair, until the Sharks staked themselves a 13-9 advantage following a service ace from Mihacevich.  

  • The Sharks sealed their win courtesy of two consecutive kills from Stockman, finishing off a four-set victory over Palm Beach Atlantic.

Sharks Fall On Road At Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks finished its two-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Eckerd to compete in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. NSU fought hard but fell in three sets to the Tritons (21-25, 24-26, 24-26).

· The Sharks kept it close in the second set, tying Eckerd 22-22 with a kill by Taylor Stockman assisted by Madison Cook.

· Despite its comeback efforts, NSU eventually dropped the second set 26-24.

· Nova Southeastern started strong in the third set, getting six straight points from kills by Olivia Aniol, Kate Mihacevich and Madison Cook.

· The Sharks led 24-21, but the Tritons stormed back to win the final set 26-24, also ending the match.

Sharks Fall in SSC Match Against Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks faced off against Sunshine State Conference foe Tampa on Friday evening from the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. NSU fell in three sets to the Spartans (20-25, 10-25, 11-25).

  • NSU got off to a strong start in the first set, taking a 3-1 lead following a pair of service aces from Grace Green and a kill from Kate Mihacevich.  

  • After Tampa took a 6-4 lead over NSU, Mihacevich scored back-to-back points to tie the set at 6-6.  

  • The Sharks and Spartans battled back-and-forth for much of the set, as the Spartans lead 17-15. 

  • Tampa closed out the opening set and defeated the Sharks, 25-20.  

  • UT took the second set 25-10 over NSU, as the Sharks dropped the opening two sets.  

  • Nova Southeastern opened the third set with a 5-2 lead, but the Spartans rallied back to tie at 5-5.  

  • The Sharks dropped the third set, and the match, falling 25-11.

NSU Falls at Home to Barry

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team returned home to the Shark tank and hosted the Barry Buccaneers on Tuesday evening from Rick Case Arena. NSU was defeated by Barry in three-sets (17-25, 24-26, 15-25).

HOW IT HAPPENED

· Kills from Taylor Stockman, Olivia Aniol, Julia Bernardes, and Kate Mihacevich kept the Sharks in set one for a bit, but the Buccaneers ran away with it, winning the set 25-17.

· Set two saw a lot of back-and-forth between the Sharks and Buccaneers. The Sharks forced a Buccaneers timeout after scoring four of five consecutive points. The points came from kills by Taylor Stockman, Madison Cook, Jordan Chessar, and Olivia Aniol.

· After kills from Kate Mihacevich and Taylor Stockman to tie set two at 24-24, the Buccaneers scored two points back-to-back to take set two 26-24.

· The Sharks took an early 9-6 lead in the third set thanks to a kill from Taylor Stockman and a service ace from Madison Cook.

· The Sharks began to rally late with back-to-back kills from Olivia Aniol and Kate Mihacevich, but it was not enough to take down the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers win set three 25-15, winning the match 3-0.

The Sharks are back in action on Friday night at 7:00pm as they travel to Tampa to take on the Spartans.

Sharks Drop Pair of Matches to Close out Crossover Tournament

HOOVER, Al. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team completed play at the South Region Crossover on Saturday evening, taking on both West Florida and Mississippi College from the Gulf South Conference. NSU fell in three-sets to West Florida (18-25, 11-25, 26-28) and four-sets to Mississippi College (26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 21-25).

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. West Florida) 

  • Grace Green began the match with a service ace, sparking a 3-0 run for Nova Southeastern to begin the match.  

  • West Florida later scored five unanswered points, taking a 9-7 lead over NSU.  

  • Two consecutive errors by West Florida allowed NSU an opportunity to tie the first set at 10-10. 

  • The Argonauts closed out the set 25-18 over Nova Southeastern, after rallying for a second 5-0 run.  

  • NSU made several miscues to open the second set, falling behind 13-5 against West Florida.  

  • Nova Southeastern dropped the second set 25-11.  

  • After trailing by as many as six points in the third set, the Sharks rallied back to tie West Florida at 15-15. 

  • UWF managed to score five consecutive points, taking a 20-15 lead, but Jordan Chessar sparked a 4-0 run to bring the score to 23-22.  

  • NSU forced extra points, but the Argonauts sealed the third set with a win at 28-26.  

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Mississippi College) 

  • Trailing 13-7, Nova Southeastern took advantage of three MC errors and a pair of kills from Julia Bernardes to cut the Mississippi College deficit to 13-12.  

  • The Sharks rallied late in the set, receiving points from Kate Mihacevich, Taylor Stockman, and Bruna Avila to win the first set, 26-24.  

  • Mississippi College began the second set with a 12-6 lead, but Nova Southeastern rallied back, as Mihacevich sparked a 7-1 run for NSU to put the score at 18-17 in favor of NSU.  

  • However, MC rallied to seal the set win (25-20), tying the match at 1-1.  

  • NSU used a 5-0 run in the third set, led by Olivia Aniol, Chessar and Avery Piatt, to lead 9-7.  

  • With the Sharks leading 18-16, Mississippi College took 7-of-8 points, claiming a 23-18 lead late in the third set.  

  • The Choctaws won the third set 25-21, taking a 2-1 set advantage.  

  • Aniol and Mihacevich began the fourth set with back-to-back kills, giving NSU a quick 2-0 lead.  

  • Following two consecutive errors by Mississippi College, the Sharks led 14-13.  

  • Trailing 19-16, Mihacevich recorded a pair of kills to tie the set at 20-20.  

  • MC sealed the set win and the match victory by winning the final four points.

Sharks Start South Region Crossover with Sweep

HOOVER, AL. – Nova Southeastern began play at the South Region Crossover event on Friday evening, taking on the Lee Flames from the Finley Center. The Sharks swept Lee in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) to win their third consecutive match.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Lee began the match with an early lead, but the Sharks never let the Flames take full control of the opening set. NSU rallied for a 5-0 run off of four consecutive service aces from Preslee Brooksbank to lead 18-17. 

  • Jordan Chessar, after recording two of the final points in the set, helped guide the Sharks to a 1-0 match lead as NSU took the first set 25-22.  

  • Nova Southeastern opened the second set on a 3-0 run, taking advantage of two Lee errors.  

  • Two more errors by the Flames allowed NSU to extend its lead to 10-5.  

  • The Sharks won 7-of-8 points, receiving points from Chessar, Julia Bernardes, Olivia Aniol and Aleyna Kennel.  

  • Brooksbank added another service ace to her line, sealing the second set win for NSU, 25-17.  

  • The Sharks, facing a 12-8 deficit in the third set, used a 4-0 run to put the score at 13-12.  

  • Back-to-back service aces from Kate Mihacevich put NSU in front 15-14.  

  • Nova Southeastern sealed the third set win – and match sweep – following an error by Lee, taking the third set, 25-20.  

UPCOMING 

The Sharks continue South Region play on Saturday, October 15, taking on West Florida and Mississippi College from the Finley Center. First serve for the West Florida match is set for 1:15 p.m.
