Sharks Reach Program-Best Mark at No. 2 in New National Poll

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Talk about an unparalleled stretch for Nova Southeastern athletics. After the NSU baseball team joined the men’s basketball team at No. 1 in the national rankings earlier this week, head coach Doug Neagle and the NSU women’s tennis team have made moves of their own, rising to No. 2 for the first time in program history in the new release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national poll.

“I’m happy for our team to receive this type of recognition, as they’ve been working very hard this year,” said Neagle. “We won’t be complacent, though, because of the high national ranking. This team is hungry and wants to put in the work required to achieve their lofty goals.”

The Sharks are off to an impressive 8-1 start this spring, including a perfect 3-0 mark in Sunshine State Conference play. Of their eight wins, four have already come against ranked opponents, three of which were over Top-10 programs. NSU’s lone loss was a 4-3 heartbreaker versus then-No. 2 Indianapolis on a neutral court.

Along with the team recognition, the Sharks feature three players in the national singles rankings in Natalie Espinal (No. 7), Julie Razafindranaly (No. 11) and Nika Kozar (No. 23), while Espinal and Chantal Nosievici remained at No. 2 in the doubles rankings with Kozar and Zala Dovnik positioned at No. 6.

NSU is one of three SSC programs among the nation’s Top-25, joined by No. 1 Barry and No. 8 Saint Leo.

Following the cancelation of its Mar. 12 match against Flagler, NSU will now return to action at home on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 2 p.m. when it plays host to Wayne State. To stay up-to-date with the Sharks, visit NSUSharks.com or follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @NSU_WTennis.
