Mahnke, Butler Pace Sharks at Keiser University Twilight Invitational

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Track team competed at the Keiser University Twilight Invitational on Friday evening. The Sharks were led by a new school record from the women’s 4 X 800 Relay and top three finishes from Bella Butler and David Mahnke.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Track team completed racing at the Black and Gold Invitational Saturday evening. Marcus Tortorella led the Sharks on the men’s side, earning a 1st place finish in the Men’s 3000 run. Ally Jakubiak earned the highest finish on the women’s side, finishing 3rd in the Women’s 3000 run.

Sharks Compete at Black and Gold Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Track team competed at the Black and Gold Invitational on Friday evening. Leena Saidi led the way on the women’s side, earning a top-5 finish in the 5000 Run, and on the men’s side, Marcus Tortorella was the first Shark across the line in the 5000 Run, earning a seventh place finish.

Sharks Compete at the UT Spartans Invite

TAMPA, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern track team competed at the UT Spartans Invite on Friday Night. Bella Butler and Maggie Ragsdale led the way for NSU, earning second-place finishes in the women’s 800 meters and 1500 meters respectively. Andres Agudelo was the highest finisher on the men’s side, finishing ninth in the 400 meters.

Carter, Sharks Announce 2024 Track Schedule

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Head Coach Jonathan Carter announced the 2024 Nova Southeastern Track schedule on Wednesday afternoon, the Sharks will compete in 10 meets this spring.  

“Coach De Bastos and I developed this schedule with the goal to compete at meets that would give our team the best opportunity to achieve our team goals as well as individual goals”, stated Head Coach Jonathan Carter. “We know these competitions will challenge our student-athletes to perform at their very best. Our opening meet will be held at University of Tampa on February 17th, where the University of Tampa women were the SSC XC champions, so we are expecting this meet to test our abilities. Not to mention this meet should also host several SSC teams which should a competitive field for our men. The remaining portion of our schedule will offer us opportunities to perform at our optimal best.”

The Sharks kick off action at the UT Spartans Open on Feb. 17 before heading back to Tampa in two weeks to compete at the UT Spartans Invite on March 1st. NSU will round out the month of March with the Hurricane Invitational (Mar. 15-16) and the Knights Invite (Mar. 22-23).  

In April, the Sharks will compete in five meets, starting the month with two separate meets on April 5-6, traveling different squads to both the University of Miami and the University of South Florida. Th rest of April will feature meets at Keiser (April 12-13), Georgia Tech (April 19-20), and the University of North Florida (April 26-27). 

The 2024 regular season concludes in Cleveland, TN., with NSU making a trip to Lee (TN) on May 10th. The NCAA Outdoor National Championship is scheduled for May 23-25 in Emporia, Kansas.

Sunshine State Conference Adds Outdoor Track

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference proudly announces the addition of men’s outdoor track, and women’s outdoor track starting in the 2024-25 academic year. With these additions, the conference will sponsor 21 sports, including 12 women’s sports.

Currently, eight members compete in outdoor track. 

Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sports organization to the NCAA Division II “Conference of National Champions.” Since its inception, the conference has shown steady growth in sports played, membership, and national prominence. Member institutions have won 122 NCAA team national championships across 14 sports, including 38 this past decade in 12 sports. Academically, SSC members lead NCAA Division II with a record-tying 89% Academic Success Rate in 2022-23.

Additional details surrounding men’s and women’s track will come at a later date.
