CLEVELAND, Ohio – The final standings for the 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup were announced on Tuesday afternoon. Nova Southeastern University Athletics, following a year in which two programs won NCAA Division II National Championships (Women’s Swimming and Women’s Tennis) and had 12 programs advance to their respective NCAA Tournaments, earned a second consecutive top-10 finish placing eighth overall.
“To finish in the top-10 of the prestigious LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup two years in a row is a true testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and our senior administration,” said Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President for Advancement, Michael Mominey. “I couldn’t be more proud to lead this preeminent and nationally recognized athletic department. We truly deliver on our mission by providing a holistic championship experience for our student-athletes. It simply doesn’t get any better than that.”
The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup counts points based on the final standings after each sport’s respective seasons are finished. Overall, 15 total teams will be used in the scoring, four of which must be men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and volleyball.
Nova Southeastern Athletics totaled 705.5 points during the 2023-24 athletic year – 114 points in the fall, 324.5 points in the winter and 267 points in the spring.
During the fall, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Women’s Soccer totaled 64 points while the NSU Volleyball program added 50 to the departmental total. NSU moved into the top-10 of the standings after a dominant winter sports season, in which the women’s swimming team won their second consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship (100 points), the men’s basketball program finished as national finalists (90 points), Sharks women’s basketball, the Sunshine State Conference regular season champions, advanced to the NCAA South Region tournament (64 points), and the men’s swimming program earned an eight place finish at the NCAA National Championship meet (70.5 points). In the spring, NSU accumulated 267 points, which included the first NCAA National Championship by the Women’s Tennis program (100 points), in addition to points from women’s golf (66), men’s golf (51) and softball (50).
Nova Southeastern University student-athletes also continued the tradition of excellence in the classroom, reaching 28 consecutive semesters with a departmental grade point average above 3.00.
