#14 Sharks Fall in SSC Quarterfinals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The #14 ranked Nova Southeastern Women’s basketball team fell to the Florida Southern Mocs in the opening round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament.

How it Happened

First Half – The Sharks jumped out to a 9-0 run capped off by free throws from Kailyn Terrell. Florida Southern answered with an 11-0 run to take an 11-9 lead heading into the second quarter. The Mocs continued to stay aggressive offensively, pushing their lead to 18-11 before back-to-back three-pointers from Alana Ellis and India Shepherd cut the Sharks deficit to one. Both teams began to settle in the rest of the quarter as the Mocs held onto a three-point advantage heading into the half. 

Second Half – Free throws from Shepherd kicked off a 10-0 run for NSU to start the second half, giving Nova a 29-22 lead with 4:38 left to play in the quarter. FSC clawed their way back, cutting their deficit to six points as the Sharks maintained a 35-29 lead going into the final frame. Florida Southern was red hot in the fourth quarter, outscoring NSU 26-10 to secure the 55-45 upset victory over the Sharks.
