FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball welcomes Emerson Deferme, Brooke Spurgeon, Camie Mitrovich and Emma Isroff as the 2023 signing class, announces Head Coach Kacie Ehinger.
Emerson Deferme | Outside Hitter | Grandview High School | Centennial, Colorado
Deferme joins Nova Southeastern from Grandview High School, where she was a four-year varsity letter winner. Deferme earned Second-Team All-State recognition in 2022, as well as being named an Honorable mention to the All-State team in 2021. Emerson was also named to the First-Team All-League in both 2021 and 2022, in addition to the Second-Team All-League in the spring of 2021. Deferme was also nominated for the Club Volleyball VBallRecruiter Junior Player of the Year in 2021.
Head Coach Kacie Ehinger – “I can’t wait to get Emerson on campus. She is a dynamic six-rotation outside hitter, who has great jumping ability with a heavy arm. Her ability to control the ball and give us a backrow threat is going to be very valuable.”
Brook Spurgeon | Libero/Defensive Specialist | Seacrest Country Day School | Naples, Florida
Spurgeon, a three-time Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA) State Champion, commits to the Sharks from Seacrest Country Day School. Spurgeon was recognized as an All-Area Second-Team honoree in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, Spurgeon earned the 2021 Seacrest Volleyball Coaches Award, was a 2023 Elite 11 member, and was named to the 2020 9AA All-District team, as well as the Region 5AA All-Tournament team in Tennessee. Brooke was a 2020 AAU All-American.
Head Coach Kacie Ehinger – “Brooke is such a fun kid to watch. She works so hard on every play and has played almost every position on the court at some point in her career. She has a high volleyball IQ and will transition that to focus on a defensive role for us. She has great ball control and reads the game well. I can’t wait to see where Brooke’s Sharks career takes her!”
Camie Mitrovich | Setter | Rock Hill High School | Rock Hill, South Carolina
Mitrovich signs with Sharks Volleyball from Rock Hill High School, where she starred throughout her prep career. Mitrovich was a four-time All-Region honoree – 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 – a two-time All-State member – 2022, 2023 – an AVCA Phenom and was named to the JVA All-American Watch List.
Head Coach Kacie Ehinger – “Camie is another player who has done it all in her career. In High School she’s hit and she also is a 3 sport athlete. I look forward to her being able to focus on just the setting position in college, which she already excels at!”
Emma Isroff | Right Side | Lake High School | Hartville, Ohio
Isroff commits to Nova Southeastern following a prep career at Lake High School. During her tenure at Lake, Isroff was recognized as an All-Federal League Honorable Mention in 2021, a Second-Team All-Federal League honoree in 2022 and 2023, a Second-Team All-County recipient in 2022 and 2023, as well as a First-Team All-District member in both 2022 and 2023.
Head Coach Kacie Ehinger – “Emma is a physical Middle in High School and in Club, who we will be moving to the right side. She puts up a big block and has tremendous upside, I look forward to seeing her grow within our system.”
Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball holds an 18-9, 11-7 Sunshine State Conference record on the 2023 season. NSU concludes its 2023 regular season with a pair of SSC matches this weekend, taking on Rollins (11/17) and Florida Tech (11/18).
