Sharks Competing for SSC Titles after Day Four

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Day four of the Sunshine State Conference Championships has been completed. The Sharks earned four gold medals on Saturday, including setting two more Sunshine State Conference records, as Emily Trieschmann set the 500-free record and Savanna Best became the fastest 100-breaststroke swimmer in SSC history.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Women’s

  • Saturday’s action began with the Sharks demonstrating their dominance, as Emily Trieschmann became the fastest 500-free swimmer in Sunshine State Conference history, recording a time of 4:46.29.
  • Ilaria Murzilli and Victoria Ortiz placed second and third in the 500-free, posting times of 4:54.44 and 4:55.17, respectively.
  • Mollie Morfelt (54.17) added a victory for the Sharks in the 100-backstroke, narrowly edging out teammate Celina Marquez (54.37)
  • Savanna Best added another Sunshine State Conference record to the NSU tally at championship weekend, winning the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:00.30
  • Emilia Ronningal finished second in the 100-breaststroke, finishing in 1:02.45
  • Sasha Maslova (2nd/1:59.73) and May Lowy (3rd/2:00.09) added medals for NSU in the 200-butterfly.

HOW IT HAPPENDED – Men’s

  • Jarryd Baxter recorded a third-place finish in the 100-back for the Sharks and posted a time of 48.61
  • Steven Aimable finished second in the 200-butterfly, recording a time of 1:47.77
  • Umberto Marsic, Mateus Ribiero, Thomas Flower and Aimable ended Saturday’s action with a win in the 200-free relay.

UPCOMING
Championship Sunday will begin with preliminary races at 10 a.m., with the final races set to begin at 5 p.m. The top-ranked Nova Southeastern women’s swimming team will look to close out their third consecutive Sunshine State Conference Championship.
