Sandra Changkija honored as Women’s PGA Professional Player of the Year

Former Nova Southeastern Women’s Golfer and NSU Athletics Hall of Fame member Sandra Changkija has been honored as the 2022 Women’s PGA Professional Player of the Year, presented by Rolex.

Changkija began her 2022 campaign by defending her title at the PGA Women’s Stroke Play Championship at the PGA Golf Club. She followed with tournament victories at the LPGA Professionals National Championship – Championship Division in July, NFPGA Stableford Championship at Orange County National, and closed with wins at the North Florda Section Championship and Women’s Section Championship in September at TPC Sawgrass. Changkija totaled 725 points en route to earning her first career Women’s PGA Professional Player of the Year honor.

During her time at Nova Southeastern, Changkija was one of the most decorated student-athletes in both NSU and NCAA history. She is the only NCAA golfer, across all levels, to earn four straight outright National Player of the Year recognition. Additionally, Changkija was named the WGCA Freshman of the Year in 2008, a four-time WGCA First-Team All-American, led the Sharks to three team NCAA National titles (2009-11) and became the first Nova Southeastern Women’s Golfer to win the individual national championship (2010).

Changkija was inducted into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016 and still holds Sharks Women’s Golf records for lowest scoring average (73.79), individual wins (16), birdies (328) and eagles (6).
