Moving On! Sharks Beat Lions to Advance in NCAA Tournament

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The second-ranked Nova Southeastern Women’s Tennis team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament with a 4-1 victory over No. 3 Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon from the NSU Tennis Complex. The Sharks hosted the Benedict Tigers and Saint Leo Lions during the tournament, earning a pair of victories,

DOUBLES COMPETITION 

SINGLES ACTION 

  • Dovnik was defeated 6-1, 6-0, as Saint Leo tied the match at 1-1.  

  • No. 2 Natalie Espinal defeated No. 14 Nina Furmaniak 6-0, 6-2, giving the Sharks a 2-1 advantage. 

  • Nika Kozar won a thrilling first set, 7-6 (7-3), before taking the match win with a score of 6-1, putting the Sharks firmly in the lead. 

  • A back-and-forth matchup between #4 Razafindranaly and #11 Marta Vicens Miquel featured two of the top Division II players in the country. Razafindranaly outlasted her counterpart, winning the final two sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) to seal the victory for the Sharks. 

UPCOMING 

The Sharks have now advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. NSU returns to competition on Tuesday, May 17, from Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
