Calles, Serra Post Red Numbers in Opening Round of Super Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Javier Calles fired a round of (-3) 69, while Josep Serra shot (-2) 70, as the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team collectively wrapped up round one of the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional at one-under par and in 11th on the leaderboard Thursday. Calles and Serra currently sit tied for eighth and tied for 19th, respectively,

  • The Sharks were one of 11 teams in the field to shoot under-par on Thursday, with the scoring average finishing at 72.49.
  • West Georgia and Delta State went low early in the day and watched their 12-under par efforts hold up, as the two teams currently own a share of the lead.
  • Barry, the nation’s top-ranked team, finds itself just one back at 11-under par.
  • Limestone (-7) concluded round one in fourth, while both Columbus State and Barton round out the Top-5 with identical scores of six-under par.
  • Calles opened with a birdie right off the bat on No. 1 before sinking two more down the stretch on No. 15 and No. 17 to secure his round of (-3) 69. The sophomore is currently four back of the leader, Muhammad Afif Mohd Fathi of Barton.
  • Serra closed with a bogey on No. 18, yet birdied three of the four Par-5’s to finish the afternoon at two-under in his first career regional round.
  • Mike Hay and Emanuel Olofsson shot matching rounds of (+2) 74 on Thursday to grab a share of 68th.
  • Jonny Cachon will head into Friday’s second round tied for 98th at five-over par.


  • The Sharks’ combined 61 pars were third-most in the field Thursday.


  • The Top-6 teams in the 20-team field, along with the Top-2 individuals on a non-advancing team, will qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship on May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Mich.
