Sharks Race At SSC Invitational

TAMPA, FL. – Nova Southeastern’s Men’s and Women’s Track teams competed at the Sunshine State Conference Invitational, hosted by Tampa, on Saturday afternoon. NSU competed in the 1500, 5K and 800 meter runs.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Ivanova Yanes was the top Shark to finish in the 1500 meter run, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:46.54. 

  • Eden Toal came in seventh place, just a few seconds behind Yanes, completing the run in 4:50.45. 

  • Maya Espinosa (14th/4:53.85) and Corinne Renshaw (19th/4:59.69) were the remaining top-20 placers for Nova Southeastern. 

  • On the men’s side, Trey May placed 16th overall (4:13.47) 

  • Kamila Soja (6th/19:16.79) and Lia Smerina (20:15.51) were top-10 finishers for the Sharks in the 5K. 

  • Aaron Weimer nearly won the men’s 5K, finishing in 15:20.45, less than one second off the leader’s pace.  

  • Tessa Grotzinger placed 17th in the women’s 800. With a time of 2:42.10. Grotzinger’s splits were 1:16.72/1:25.39 

  • Holden Decker finished 17th in the 800m, with a time of 2:03.15. Decker’s splits for the race were 59.29/1:03.87

The Sharks will compete in Jacksonville, FL., at North Florida on Friday, April 29.
