INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second time in as many seasons under head coach Joey Marino, the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team is headed back to an NCAA South/Southeast Regional after earning the No. 5 seed out of the South following the announcement of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships field on Friday.
The regional will be held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. from May 5-7.
“We’ve worked hard to get to this point and are excited for a chance to compete for a national title,” said Marino. “We gained some valuable postseason experience a year ago and hope that can help us take the next step here in a few weeks,”
Overall, a total of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals have been selected to participate in regional competition.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes from a non-advancing team from each regional will advance to the finals on May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Mich. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year’s head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven.
The Sharks are joined by Barry, Florida Southern, Saint Leo and Lynn as the representatives from the Sunshine State Conference to make the field. Barry earned the region’s top seed as the automatic qualifier out of the SSC, while Lee landed the No. 2 seed as the automatic bid out of the Gulf South Conference.
NSU last won the national championship in 2015.
