Sharks Split-up, Compete at Dual Events

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks men’s and women’s track teams competed in two separate events on Saturday evening, as Ivanova Yanes, Kamila Soja, Maya Espinosa and Aaron Weimer represented NSU at the Flames Invitational in Cleveland, TN., while the rest of the teams competed at the Hurricanes Alumni Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. 

FLAMES INVITATIONAL 

Ivanova Yanes continues to star for the Sharks, placing fifth overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:07.56. Soja and Espinosa also added top-15 finishes for NSU, as Soja placed 13th (11:53.95) and Espinosa came in 14th (11:54.64). In the men’s race, Weimer placed 27th with a time of 9:47.98.  

HURRICANES INVITATIONAL 

Isabella Aristizabal was the top finisher for the Sharks in the 1500m, placing 10th in 5:11.08. Julie Bruggner (11th/5:19.42), Corinne Renshaw (12/5:21.60), Kiely Curran (13/5:23.05), Caitlyn Rogers (14/5:24.29) and Lia Smerina (16/5:36.36) all placed within the top-20 of the race for NSU.  

Michael May and Haydon Patrick both finished in the top-20 for the Sharks, placing 18th and 19th respectively.  

Grace Moriarty was the first Shark to complete the 800m race, finishing in 2:44.00 and narrowly edging out teammate Lauren Breski (2:45.86). Lucas Mardis, Holden Decker, and Cote Strike all finished within the top-25 in the final race of the day for NSU, with Mardis placing 22nd (2:06.41).

The Sharks are back in action from Tampa on Saturday, April 23.
