Olofsson, Hay Finish Top-10 as Sharks Take Second at The Battle at the Shores

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Paced by a quartet of one-over par rounds on Tuesday, the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team earned a runner-up finish at The Battle at the Shores, hosted by Barry. The collective four-over par effort during the final round propelled the Sharks to a 54-hole total of (+7) 859, giving the nation’s 12th-ranked team a positive outlook entering next week’s Sunshine State Conference Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Sharks distanced themselves from the rest of the pack on Tuesday, yet were unable to catch eventual tournament champion Barry, who wrapped up play with a 54-hole score of (-7) 845.
  • A dozen strokes behind NSU, Lynn claimed third while Tampa (+21) and Eastern Florida State (+22) rounded out the Top-5 of the leaderboard.
  • Emanuel Olofsson shrugged off a double-bogey on No. 1 to cap his final round at (+1) 72. The Swede led the Sharks throughout the tournament, finishing in a tie for fourth at even-par overall.
  • Mike Hay birdied three of his final seven holes of Tuesday’s round to earn himself a share of seventh on the leaderboard at two-over par for the week.
  • Matching 72s in the final round, along with matching 54-hole scores of (+4) 217 moved both Jonny Cachon and Javier Calles into ties for 13th.
  • Freshman Josep Serra finished just outside the Top-20, in a tie for 21st at six-over for the tournament.
  • Competing as an individual, Joseba Torres (+10) concluded play tied for 42nd.

STATS OF THE DAY:

  • All five players in the NSU lineup recorded a birdie on the Par-5 18th Tuesday.
  • Cachon led the entire field in Par-5 scoring average (4.11).
  • Hay and Torres tied for a tournament-best with 42 combined pars.
  • Olofsson was one of four players this week to tally a tournament-high 12 birdies.
  • Olofsson’s Par-4 scoring average of 4.00 ranked tied for second among all players.
  • The final round conditions proved to be the toughest of the week with a scoring average of 76.06.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

  • The top-ranked player in the nation in Barry’s A.J. Ewart earned individual medalist honors, finishing at five-under par.
