Two Sharks Earn SSC Athlete of the Week Honors

Earlier this afternoon, the Sunshine State Conference announced its Athlete of the Week awards for the week ending on Sunday, March 20. Hanna Ahlander (Women’s Golf) and Ashley Connor (Softball) were the Sharks recognized for their performances.

Ahlander finished runner-up last week as the new No. 2 team in the nation earned a rain-shortened win by nine shots at the Emerald Coast Classic in Destin, Fla. The senior was one of just two players in red numbers, shooting a (+2) 73 and a (-3) 68 to conclude play at (-1). She tallied a combined six birdies. Ahlander is ranked the No. 15 player in DII according to Golfstat.

Across three appearances in the circle for the Sharks this past week, Connor posted a 2-0 record to go along with a save. The freshman allowed just one earned run over 15.0 innings while striking out eight. She tossed complete games in each of her two starts, including a shutout against Columbus State, while limiting hitters to a .157 average. She pitched a perfect seventh inning in the series finale to secure NSU’s sweep of Florida Tech. The Sharks have now earned consecutive SSC series sweeps and have won 14 of 15 overall.
