Sharks Rally to Beat ERAU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball completed its 2021-22 regular season with a hard-fought, comeback victory against Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks earned their 16th win of the season by defeating the Eagles 67-66 from the ICI Center. Madeline Hardy scored a game-high 28-points, on 9-11 shooting to lead the Sharks to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

1ST QUARTER – The Sharks offense stumbled from the opening tip, scoring just eight points in the first quarter of play and falling behind 20-8. 

2ND QUARTER – Madeline Hardy and McKenah Peters quickly got the Sharks back in the game, leading an 8-0 run with back-to-back three-pointers to bring NSU within four. Grace Gilmore added a three-pointer of her own to cut the deficit to one, 22-21. Nova Southeastern went into the halftime break trailing 32-27.  

3RD QUARTER – A’lexus Bryant took over the game for the Sharks to start the second half, scoring the first five points for NSU. Embry-Riddle extended their lead to 45-36 but that was before a 14-0 run to end the quarter, led by three-three-pointers from Peters, gave the Sharks a 50-45 advantage heading into the final quarter.  

4TH QUARTER – NSU continued its run to start the fourth, to total an 18-4 rally, taking a 54-49 lead. Hardy pushed the advantage to eight, following a jumper, as the Sharks led 59-51. Nova Southeastern clung to a four-point lead with under two minutes to play, but the Eagles made a three-pointer, bringing the score to 65-64 with 1:16 remaining. Peters sunk two free throws in the final ten seconds to push the lead to 67-64, which was just enough to leave Daytona Beach with a win, and hand Embry-Riddle their fourth consecutive defeat, as the Sharks won 67-66.  

UPCOMING 

Nova Southeastern enters the Sunshine State Conference tournament as the sixth-seed and will travel to St. Petersburg to take on third-seeded Eckerd in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, March 1. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
