MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the heels of their notable 2021 seasons, Nova Southeastern women’s soccer standouts Louise Matgard and Chama Silva have been honored as All-Sunshine State Conference members, announced by the league office on Thursday.
Matsgard, a freshman, was named to the All-SSC First Team, while Silva landed on the second team.
Voting was conducted among the league’s coaches.
“Massive congratulations to both Louise and Chama,” said NSU head coach James Moore. “Louise has come in as a true freshman and settled into the team effortlessly. Her desire to compete and improve every day is something to be admired. Chama, meanwhile, is a constant vocal leader on and off the field and her desire to win helps lead and energize the team to new heights.”
A two-time SSC Offensive Player of the Week throughout the season, Matsgard made a significant impact in her first year in a Shark uniform. Starting all 16 games, the midfielder matched a team high with six goals, including three-game winners, to go along with a pair of assists across a combined 1,284 minutes – second-most on the team. The Swede was held without a goal throughout the first seven matches of the season, yet found her stride in the thick of SSC play, lighting up opponents for all six scores in a span of eight games.
After showing flashes as a freshman back in 2019, Silva made considerable strides with the Sharks back on the pitch in 2021. The forward appeared in all 16 games this fall, registering 15 starts, while racking up five goals and a team-best four assists. Silva scored in each of NSU’s final three matches, coming away with SSC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 8.
Tampa’s Kate Hostage was awarded SSC Player of the Year, with Lynn’s Anniina Sankoh recognized as Offensive Player of the Year. Embry-Riddle reeled in three postseason honors, including Defensive Player of the Year (Anita Agustdottir), Freshman of the Year (Hattie Kettle) and Coach of the Year (Samantha Bohon).
NSU concluded its season in the SSC Tournament quarterfinals with a final record of 8-7-1. To stay up-to-date with the Sharks, follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @NSU_WSoccer.
