NSU Cross Country Races at SSC Championship

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country teams raced in the Sunshine State Conference Championship Meet on Saturday morning. The men’s team placed sixth overall in the eight-team field, while the women finished fifth in a seven-team field. Ivanova Yanes was the top placer for the Sharks, finishing the 8-kilometer race in sixth place and was named to the All-Championship team. 

INSIDE THE MEET 

Scores: Men 6th, 176; Women 5th, 111

HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN’S) 

  • Joseph Salerno was the top finisher on the men’s side, placing 18th and finishing in 25:54. 
  • Aaron Weimer added a top-30 finish for the Sharks, coming in 27th at 26:38. 
  • Trey May (40th/27.37), Justin Haber (45th/27:59), and Zachary Pizzo (46th/28:18) were the final three placers for Nova Southeastern, all coming in the top-50. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN’S) 

  • Ivanova Yanes earned All-Championship team honors after placing sixth overall in the women’s race, completing the track in 22:40. 
  • Kamila Soja also placed within the top-20 for NSU, finishing in 23:32, which was good for 17th place. 
  • Leah Marville (23rd/23:59) and Maya Espinosa (25th/24:05) were all top-25 placers for the Sharks. 
  • Eden Toal completed the top-five finishers for Nova Southeastern, completing the race in 25:08. 

UP NEXT  

Both the Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country teams have earned bids to the NCAA South Region Championship on Sat., Nov. 6 at Saint Leo.
