MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the second time in their respective careers, Nova Southeastern’s Hanna Ahlander and Sofia Garcia Austt have received All-Sunshine State Conference honors, as both were selected to the Women’s Golf All-SSC Second Team on Thursday.
Ahlander adds the award to her resume’ after winning SSC Freshman of the Year in 2019, while Garcia Austt landed a first-team nod the same year.
Voting for the All-SSC Women’s Golf Teams was conducted among the conference’s women’s golf coaches.
As a junior in 2021, Ahlander led the Sharks with a team-best scoring average of 76.76 over the course of six tournaments. In the process, the Swede registered three Top-20 finishes, including an 11th-place finish at the Saint Leo Invitational and a tie for 17th at the SSC Championship. According to Golfstat, she is currently ranked as the No. 50 player in NCAA Division II.
Garcia Austt, meanwhile, carded three rounds of par or better this spring, including a season-low round of (-3) 69 at the Lady Moc Golf Classic, on her way to posting an overall scoring average of 76.94. Among her six tournament appearances, the native on Montevideo, Uruguay collected five Top-20 finishes, earning a share of seventh at the SSC Championship. Her 28 birdies matched Ahlander for the team lead, helping bring her current national ranking to No. 40 in Division II.
Tampa’s Kiira Riihijarvi repeated as SSC Women’s Golfer of the Year, with Lynn’s Marcelo Huarte taking home his second straight SSC Coach of the Year award. Camila Madariaga of Lynn was recognized as the SSC Freshman of the Year.
