No. 3 Sharks Move to 2-0 on 5-2 Triumph over No. 9 Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Completing a very successful road swing for the week and moving to 2-0, the No. 3 Nova Southeastern Sharks women’s tennis squad gutted out the year’s first ranked victory, topping No. 9 Saint Leo on Sunday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center, capturing a 5-2 victory over the Lions.
 
DOUBLES

  • The Sharks made a clean sweep of the doubles, kicking off with a 6-4 win by Natalie Espinal and Chantal Nosievici over Molly Helgesson and Lavinia Lancellotti on the No. 1 court.
  • At No. 3 doubles, Karolina Snita and Diane Follin-Arbelet followed up with a 6-2 victory over Marta Vicens Miquel and Celina Ermann to secure the team doubles point.
  • Daniela Obando and Isabella Lowrey closed out the doubles win triad, topping Nina Furmaniak and Takhmina Zhanatova, 6-3 to keep the Sharks momentum rising.

SINGLES

  • It was All-American on All-American in the second flight, but NSU’s Snita delivered a decisive win over Vicens Miquel, 6-3, 6-0, to keep the Sharks moving ahead in singles play.
  • After SLU logged a point to trim the deficit, Celia Montero Estevan rebuilt the Sharks’ lead with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 win over Ashley Griffith at No. 6 singles.
  • At third-flight singles, Obando recovered from a first-set loss to knock down two straight wins and come out on top of Furmaniak 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 – logging the fourth score for the NSU match victory.
  • Last off the court at No. 4, Nosievici saw two tiebreakers en route to the three-set win, going 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 past Lancellotti to wrap up the 5-2 Sharks final margin.
  • Five total singles sets went to tiebreakers in Sunday’s match.

UP NEXT
The Sharks make their debut at home on the courts at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills, kicking off four consecutive home matches. On Saturday, March 13, the Sharks will host Rollins at 2:00 p.m. The Tars have yet to compete this season, but will host Saint Leo on Wednesday ahead of their southbound weekend. The Sharks earned a 7-0 sweep in the last meeting with Rollins, but the teams have split over the past four meetings, dating back to 2017.
