Sharks Continue to Post NCAA Qualifying Times on Day Two of the 2021 Shark Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The men and women’s Nova Southeastern swimming teams put up outstanding results during day two of the 2021 Shark Invitational on Saturday at the NSU Aquatic Center. All four relay teams put up provisional times while 15 individual Sharks recorded NCAA B-Cut times.
 
INSIDE THE MEET:
WOMEN’S TOTAL SCORES (THROUGH DAY 2): Tampa Spartans (857), Nova Southeastern Sharks (605)

MORNING SESSION TOP PERFORMERS:
 

  • Cassandra Wright and Amilia Nusbaum took third and fourth place in the women’s 50 freestyle in 24.04 and 24.05, respectively.
  • Alec Dawson posted a 19.95 in the men’s 50 freestyle to win the event, while Martin Hemminghyth finished closely behind in second in 20.35. Both of those times served as NCAA B-Cuts. Three other Sharks posted B-Cuts in the event in Steven Aimable (20.43), Jonathon Yanello (20.66) and Anton Mueller (20.70).
  • Allison Kopas (5:04.87) and Emma Sundstedt (5:05.29) took fourth and fifth place in the women’s 500 freestyle, respectively.
  • Jarryd Baxter won the men’s side of the 500 freestyle in 4:29.92, an NCAA B-Cut time, with Caleb Fell coming in third in 4:36.45.
  • The women’s 200 freestyle A-relay made up of Wright, Solana Capalbo, Nusbaum and Hannah Trieschmann posted a provisional time of 1:33.73, winning the event.
  • The men’s A-relay (Mueller, Yanello, Hemminghyth and Dawson) highlighted the morning with their new NSU record of 1:19.22, also posted a provisional time.

 
MORNING SESSION TOP PERFORMERS:
 

  • Allison Kopas an Savanna Best finished in first and second place in the women’s 400 IM, posting times of 4:22.95 and 4:25.17, respectively. Both of these times serve as NCAA B-Cuts.
  • The men’s team was once again dominant on Saturday evening, claiming 1-2-3-4 in the men’s 400 IM. Baxter took first in 3:53.99, followed by Spencer Hohm (3:55.79), Samuel Brettmann (3:57.10) and Alessandro Xella (3:57.79). All four times were NCAA B-Cuts.
  • Sasha Maslova swam past the competition with her winning time of 55.21 in the women’s 100 fly. This was also an NCAA B-Cut time.
  • Aimable and Dawson went 2-3 in the men’s 100 fly, posting NCAA B-Cut times of 47.64 and 48.17, respectively.
  • Maeve Hunt grabbed the bronze in the women’s 200 free in 1:53.67.
  • The women’s 400 medley relay consisting of Wright, Best, Maslova and Capalbo won the event with their qualifying time of 3:43.75.
  • The men’s 400 medley relay capped the night off with a winning time of 3:14.41. Hemminghyth, Brettmann, Aimable and Dawson recorded an NCAA qualifying time for the second night in a row. 

 
 
UP NEXT:
 
The Sharks will wrap competition in the 2021 Shark Invitational on Sunday, as day three will be split into two sessions, once again. The first session is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. and the evening session will start at 5:00 p.m.
