Inside the Shark Tank with AD Michael Mominey: Issue 03

Shark Family,

I hope this communication finds you and everyone in your family healthy and safe. As we continue to adapt to this unprecedented situation, it’s truly the little things that help remind us of what is truly important – family. This past Mother’s Day Sunday is a perfect example, as we all may have made some changes to how we celebrated this holiday. However, whomever we celebrated with, the meaning still resonated as we all showed our appreciation and love to all the incredible mothers in our lives.

Another recent life event for many saw a modification over the weekend, with the absence of an in-person commencement at Nova Southeastern. To that end, I want to recognize our senior Shark graduates. Thank you for your perseverance, your performance and your overall successes during your time at NSU. “Once a Shark, Always a Shark” is a motto we often use to define us and will live by if you ever had the opportunity to represent our university as a student-athlete. For many of you, this was likely the toughest semester in your time on campus – whether it be the interruption of your season, a major change to your routine, the time lost with the adopted family within your team or just a moving out of your comfort zone – you performed admirably to reach the finish line. Thank you to over 50 Shark student-athletes who rose above all these challenges on their path and completed the journey which began with committing to become a part of our Shark family. Although there was no in-person celebration from the stage in the Rick Case Arena, we witnessed our Sharks show their pride on social media sharing their celebrations with the most important audience, their loved ones and friends. From those lessons learned during grueling morning workouts, in becoming leaders for your teams and from the heat of competition, it’s now your time to apply all these experiences and carry your success into your next journey of life. I have no doubt we will see all of you succeed in your life goals and continue to make NSU proud.

As the next chapter of this unprecedented pandemic unfolds, we must all stay in this together to overcome what comes next, whatever that may be. As your country, your states and even our local areas move into different stages of re-opening, please heed the recommendations of the medical experts and your government officials to stay educated on the ways to keep yourselves and your family safe. We can and will reach our next goal of returning to normal. Although it may become the “new normal”, I firmly believe that we will come through on the other side of this pandemic even stronger.

I wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy summer and look forward to the day we can all be together again in person and on this beautiful campus, celebrating each other and our successes as “One Shark Family“.

Go Sharks!
