FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Continuing on with our Senior Day recognition for the programs whose seasons were limited this spring, today, the Nova Southeastern athletic department would like to celebrate the men’s golf team and its pair of seniors in Benjamin Hjort and Khush Patel.
During their careers, Hjort and Patel helped the program reach an NCAA Regional three times, while off the course, each player was twice selected to Spring Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
“I am very proud of the example Benjamin and Khush have set for current and future Sharks,” said head coach Joey Marino. “They both exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete. Their contributions to the team on and off the course, as well as in the classroom, will be greatly missed. Knowing the types of competitors and hardworking individuals they are, I am excited to see what they will achieve in the future. Go Sharks!”
Since arriving on campus back in 2016, Hjort combined to appear in 28 tournaments throughout his career, tallying 15 rounds of par or better over that span. The Swede collected seven Top-20 finishes, including three within the Top-10. His career-best finish was a tie for fifth at the Miami Intercollegiate in 2018. Hjort currently owns a 3.58 cumulative Grade Point Average in Sport and Recreation Management.
Patel, meanwhile, competed in 12 tournaments during his four-year run as a Shark, posting a total of three rounds or better. Like Hjort, he too earned a career-best finish at the Miami Intercollegiate (T-8th in 2019), where he also fired a career-best round of (-1) 69. Patel is currently pursuing a degree in Finance.
Each Friday through May, NSU will honor its seniors who had their final seasons cut short this spring.
