GENEVA, Ohio – Competing in the first day of the 2020 NCAA DII National Championships, the Nova Southeastern swim teams saw three Top-5 finishes from their five individuals and two relays that swam in Wednesday night’s finals. The highlight of the night came from the women’s 200 medley relay, where the Sharks set a new Sunshine State Conference and NSU record, earning the bronze.
INSIDE THE MEET:

FINAL RESULTS:
- Vincent Lijoi earned the first medal of the meet for the Sharks, finishing third in the men’s 1000 freestyle with a personal-best time of 9:06.53.
- On the women’s side of the 1000 free, Emma Sundstedt finished seventh with her time of 10:02.03.
- Competing in the men’s 200 IM, Samuel Brettmann and Aleksei Averchenko finished in fourth (1:46.34) and seventh (1:47.23), respectively. Both times were personal bests.
- The women’s 200 medley relay team made up by Cassandra Wright, Caily Friel, Sasha Maslova and Jenna Johns earned the bronze with their time of 1:40.13, posting a new Sunshine State Conference and institution record.
- The men’s 200 medley relay (Martin Hemminghyth, Brettmann, Magnus Poulsen, Alec Dawson) finished sixth with their time of 1:27.16
CONSOLATION FINAL RESULTS:
- In the women’s 200 IM, Sasha Maslova finished 12th with a time of 2:03.05.
PRELIMINARY RESULTS:
- Two individual swimmers and two relay teams advanced to the finals after day one prelims.
- Elizabeth Zubero finished the 200 IM in 2:06.34. On the men’s side Alessandro Xella posted a time of 1:50.41 and Spencer Hohm finished in 1:50.63.
- In the women’s 50 free, Wright and Friel posted times of 23.80 and 24.18, respectively, while Matteo Masiero recorded a time of 20.90.

Day two of the 2020 Div. II NCAA National Championships will begin tomorrow morning, Mar. 12, at 10:00 a.m. EST with the preliminaries of the 200 Freestyle Relays.
