HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The lone pair of teams to post red numbers on Sunday, top-ranked Georgia Southwestern and No. 14 West Florida each hold the 18-hole lead thanks to rounds of (-5) 283.
- At one-over par, No.16 Saint Leo currently sits in third, while No. 6 Columbus State (+2) and No. 5 Lincoln Memorial (+4) round out the Top-5 of the leaderboard.
- The nation’s No. 1 player in Georgia Southwestern’s Vincent Norrman backed up the ranking with his play in round one, jumping out to a one-shot advantage over Harry Butler of West Florida and Saint Leo’s Kevin Johnson at five-under par.
- With the Sharks teeing off the first round on the back nine, sophomore Daniel Celestino started slowly through the opening five holes of the morning. The Brazilian would settle in, though, with four straight pars to close out the back before recording three birdies on the front, his final coming on No. 9, to conclude the day in 41st at three-over par.
- Although his round was a little less entertaining, freshman Mike Hay matched Celestino with his own round of (+3) 75.
- Fellow freshman Emanuel Olofsson tallied 13 pars en route an opening-round effort of (+5) 77, good enough for a share of 68th.
- Both Victor Jimenez and Tomas Millet, currently six-over par, will head into round two tied for 74th.
STATS OF THE DAY:
- NSU’s combined 58 pars in round one rank tied for fifth-most.
- The average score in the opening round was 74.97.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD:
- Ten of the 18 teams competing this week currently rank among the nation’s Top-25, according to Golfstat.
