FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Less than 24 hours removed from its season-opening win at the World Golf Invitational, the Nova Southeastern women’s golf team has taken over as the nation’s new No. 1 in Golfstat’s updated rankings.
The Sharks overcame a one-shot deficit entering the final round en route to capturing the tournament title by an impressive 11 strokes over eight other nationally-ranked programs. The victory not only marks their third consecutive at the event, but is already their third in five tournament appearances since the start of fall. In just her fourth year in charge, NSU head coach Heather Wall has now collected 19 career wins, trailing only Kevin Marsh for most all-time in program history.
Freshman Valentina Albertazzi tied the tournament record for lowest second-round score on Tuesday with a (-4) 68 to collect second place, and as a result, has risen all the way to No. 4 in the individual rankings. The Spaniard is one of four NSU players among the nation’s Top-50, joined by Sofia Garcia Austt (No. 12), Nicola Fall (No. 28) and Hanna Ahlander (No. 34).
Of the nation’s current Top-10 programs, seven hail from the Sunshine State Conference.
The Sharks will return to the course next Monday in Lakeland, Fla. in search of their third consecutive Lady Moc Classic title. For complete coverage of the action, visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com or follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_WGolf.
