About Mayor Tom Truex
Truex was born in 1957 in Elkhart, Indiana and lived in Goshen, Indiana until 1971. His family moved to Miramar, Florida in 1971. He attended Henry D. Perry Middle School before graduating from Miramar High School in 1976. The Mayor's family moved to Davie in 1979, where he visited often and attended church during breaks from school and work. Mayor Truex received his A.B. degree from the University of Miami in 1979; and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida in December, 1981. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1982. Mayor Truex is a member of the Florida Bar and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, for the South District of Florida.
Tom and Janet (Postlethwaite) were married in the Davie United Methodist Church in 1984. They have four active children, all of whom attended neighborhood public schools in Broward County. The Mayor's parents, Lloyd and Barbara Truex, and In-Laws, Richard and Ethel Postlethwaite all live in Davie. The mayor has a brother and a sister who both live in Palm Beach County, Florida; and another brother and sister, who both live in the Atlanta area.
Mayor Truex opened his law office in Davie in 1985. His primary areas of practice are commercial collections and consumer bankruptcy. He and Janet moved to their home in Davie in 1987. The Mayor and his family are active in community service. They attend Christ the Rock Community Church.

- Member of Town of Davie, District Boundaries Committee.
- Co-authored Town Lobbyist Ordinance (Revised version adopted by Town Council).
- Editor of newsletter, The Non-Partisan DAVIE REVIEW and Cyberspace Journal.
- Leader in efforts to preserve integrity of Griffin Road Corridor.
- Leader in efforts to control high density growth and to promote quality development.
- Wrote Draft of a proposed Town Ethics Code (proposed several times, but not yet enacted by the Town Council).
